Mobland might have briefly been in a bit of limbo amidst all those “Tom Hardy got fired” rumors, which were later refuted, but as we inch closer to the second installment, another Pierce Brosnan crime saga has picked up traction on Netflix.
Brosnan, after entering an interesting late-career lane that an old franchise star can have, was locked in the public imagination as the polished James Bond. But his recent crime work has sharpened a different version of that image. In MobLand, he plays Conrad Harrigan like an aging crime king who still expects the room to bend around him. This revenge thriller has that same old-world menace, combined with his Bond persona. And the film’s chart movement is simple but strong. The movie entered Netflix’s U.S. Top 10 at No. 6 on June 6, jumped to No. 2 the next day, sat at No. 3 for two days, and even held No. 2 for three straight days after that.
The movie is Fast Charlie, Phillip Noyce’s 2023 crime thriller starring Brosnan as Charlie Swift, a loyal mob fixer who goes after the younger crew that murdered his aging boss. Morena Baccarin, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Toby Huss, and James Caan round out the rest of the cast, with Caan’s presence giving the film extra old-gangster weight. The film is only trending in the U.S. for now.

‘Fast Charlie’ Brings Brosnan Back to the Action Genre in a Big Way
Fast Charlie was built more like a lean VOD action title than a wide-release studio play, and the data backs that up. The Pierce Brosnan crime thriller was released in select theaters and on VOD on December 8, 2023. The film only ended up grossing $260,233 at the worldwide box office, against a budget of $16-20 million. It was then released on Hulu in the upcoming months. Netflix is now giving it the audience scale it never had in theaters. And while it is trending now on Netflix U.S., the same synergy is yet to branch out to other streaming platforms and regions. It can’t yet be predicted how cleanly or if that will happen.
