Transformers Officially Revives Beast Wars’ Gigastorm With a Massive New Design

When the Transformers franchise was reborn in the 1990s through Beast Wars, Takara had its own take on the concept in Japan. Now, one of the most terrifying Predacons from this part of the Beast Era is roaring back with a new toy.

Takara has revealed the first images of Transformers New Legends NL-04 Beast Wars II Gigastorm, which might seem somewhat familiar yet different to fans in the West. Retooling a previous release from the 2010s, it’s the first “new” toy for a character who only appeared in Japanese-exclusive anime. Loaded with accessories and weapons, pre-orders for this mighty dinosaur are now open.

Transformers Finally Revives Gigastorm With a Massive New Look

Transformers New Legends NL-04 Beast Wars II Gigastorm is a new version of the Predacon from the anime Beast Wars II: Transformers, which was the first Japanese-exclusive entry in the Beast Era. Gigastorm was a rebuilt version of Megastorm, the brother of Galvatron, but his design and corresponding toy were merely reworkings of the Generation 1 Titan Decepticon Trypticon.

This new toy is a similar retool of the Transformers: Titans Return Trypticon toy, retaining most of the features and accessories. This includes being able to “eat” small Headmaster/Titan Master units, with these falling into his beast-mode mouth and then being retrieved from his stomach. Attaching a Titan Master toy to the back of his head will open the canopy on this part of his body, revealing energy transmitters based on what was seen in an episode of Beast Wars II.

Along with his dinosaur form (his primary mode), he can transform into an Attack Fortress and a spaceship. The Attack Fortress mode can actually lift a Deluxe Class toy, and this mode can even connect to the similar city modes of other Titan Class toys from that line.

Instead of Full-Tilt, Gigastorm comes with Gigascouter, who has a Headmaster unit named Necro that becomes his head. Conversely, Necro’s robot mode is also based on Megastorm, evoking Gigastorm’s previous appearance. Gigastorm can now be pre-ordered on sites such as TFSource for $314.99 USD, though it’s not expected to be released until January 2027.

Transformers New Legends is the successor to the Transformers Legends toyline and essentially serves as Takara’s equivalent to Hasbro’s Transformers: Legacy and Transformers: Age of the Primes lines. While the gigantic action figure (which is over a foot tall in its dinosaur mode) is unlikely to be released in stores in the West, Beast Wars II characters have appeared in numerous lines outside Japan. These include the aforementioned Transformers: Legacy series and, more recently, the Blokees model kits.
