Resident Evil 0 Remake Tease Proves Capcom Learned An Important Lesson

The Resident Evil franchise has been on an absolutely legendary run over the past decade, releasing three new mainline entries and a plethora of fantastic remakes that are arguably even better than the originals. While it seems like Capcom has clearly figured out the formula to make an excellent remake, fans of the series haven’t always been as lucky as we are now.

With rumors and leaks continuing to circulate over Resident Evil 0 being the next entry in the franchise after Resident Evil Veronica releases next year, there has been one bittersweet fact that is turning out to be excellent news for fans of the series.

A Lesson Has Been Learned For The Leaked Resident Evil 0

While fans have been worried about which team from Capcom will be handling the upcoming remake of Resident Evil 0, it doesn’t look like there will be cause for concern. Leaker Dusk Golem stated that, while RE0 was originally being handled by the team behind the infamous Resident Evil 3 remake, it was rebooted during development and is now being headed by Division 1. The latter team is responsible for nearly all major outings in the series, like the recent release of Resident Evil Requiem.

This is fantastic news for Resident Evil 0, and it certainly helps put some players’ concerns about the remake to rest. At the same time, the fact that Resident Evil 3 is the only entry in the franchise that had the unfortunate fate of not getting a proper remake treatment all these years later is even more painful to think about, especially considering the original is still one of the most iconic entries in the series.

Both new entries and remakes in the Resident Evil series have had smashing success when headed by the core teams that made the game. The mix of non-RE-specific developers that ended up leading the RE3 remake, on the other hand, ultimately caused several major portions of the experience to be cut that fans have been lamenting over ever since.

Resident Evil 3 Remake Deserved Much Better

While it’s incredibly painful to think about the fully realized version of the Resident Evil 3 Remake we could have gotten if it was headed by one of the core teams behind the Resident Evil series as opposed to being handed off to outside directors, some fans have even started taking matters into their own hands with mods that restore its cut content.

Even outside the mods themselves, there’s been a growing sentiment that Resident Evil 3 should receive yet another remake despite it’s most recent having only been released in 2020, or at least receiving a DLC expansion to help fill in content that was left behind on the cutting room floor.

It’s more than a little tragic to imagine nearly every entry in the series having its own iconic remake that takes the experience to entirely new levels, but the fact that only one game had to seemingly be sacrificed in exchange is at least some consolation. The upcoming Resident Evil 0 Remake already sounds like yet another promising addition to the series moving forward.
