The Marvel Cinematic Universe is finally bringing one of its all-time popular heroes after a long hiatus.
Following the Spider-Man: No Way Home ending, the iconic web-slinger has been missing from the MCU for nearly five years. While Tom Holland will officially reprise his role as Peter Parker this summer, many are still wondering what the future has in store for his character after 2026.
In a new interview with the Crew Call podcast, Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton was asked if Spider-Man 5 is something that they have already started considering, or if they are looking at the 2026 entry as the final one. The MCU filmmaker cleverly stated, “Is there ever a last Spider-Man? Everyone should go to this [movie] as if it’s the last Spider-Man.”

Are you an Avenger — or just a friendly neighborhood bystander?
Cretton’s response comes only a month after Holland was recently asked about how much longer he sees himself playing Spider-Man in the MCU. The British lead shared in May, “For whoever’s next, whether that is a Miles Morales or a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman or something like that, I would love to be a part of setting up the next chapter. Whatever that looks like, I don’t know. But if I could do what Downey did for me, then I would be so content swinging off into the sunset.”
As of writing, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have not formally announced plans for a Spider-Man 5 film. Right now, the MCU timeline is focused on finishing their remaining Phase 6 movies and TV shows, as the Multiverse Saga will conclude in December 2027 with Avengers: Secret Wars.
Whether or not Peter will be officially involved with the Phase 6 finale, or even this year’s Avengers: Doomsday, has yet to be revealed. However, as the 2027 installment will start principal photography this summer, Marvel Studios may shed more light on Holland’s potential return after Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Even if the web-crawler were to be excluded from both of the Avengers projects, it’s highly unlikely that Brand New Day will be the last Spider-Man movie for the MCU. Given the hero’s massive popularity worldwide, and the franchise being one of the most profitable superhero properties, there is bound to be another continuation.
Whether or not a hypothetical Spider-Man 5 will start introducing players like Miles Morales remains to be seen. But given that the MCU is about to get a soft reset with Avengers: Secret Wars, the franchise will be able to start opening up those opportunities.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released in theaters on July 31.
