Solo Leveling Returns With Double Dungeon Arc Movie Before Season 3

Solo Leveling Season 3’s recently confirmed release window is way further away than many fans hoped. But that’s actually excellent news for fans who have been paying attention to the leaks and rumors surrounding a movie in the works for the past year.

Solo Leveling Season 3’s release has now been officially confirmed for a 2027-2028 window by SL IP-holder D&C Media via a new financial report. This isn’t the only time financial documents revealed something important coming for the Solo Leveling anime. A set of leaked financial documents tied to D&C Media in late 2025 directly referred to a Solo Leveling movie set to be announced in 2026, with a potential 2027 release.

With Solo Leveling Season 3 confirmed to be coming in 2027–2028, the movie leak is now all-but confirmed for next year, too.

Solo Leveling Season 3’s Confirmed Release Window Perfectly Lines Up With the Movie

While a late 2027 to 2028 release date might sound far off for Solo Leveling Season 3, it makes perfect sense within the context of the movie leaks.

At this point, Solo Leveling Season 3 has been indirectly confirmed, but technically not officially announced. The financial statements were definitely real, but there has still been nothing outright announced by D&C Media or A1 Pictures about the anime.

That makes a lot of sense considering there’s a movie planned. A1 Pictures’ reluctance to outright confirm Season 3’s existence up until now is probably due to the fact that they’re waiting to announce the movie instead. And even before anything was leaked, Solo Leveling series creator Chugong did confirm that there were talks about a movie happening behind the scenes during an interview in October of last year.

This movie would naturally lead into Season 3, helping to build up hype for the anime’s big return. And the movie releasing in 2027, just before Season 3 of the anime comes out, has historical precedent to back it up.

This is something Solo Leveling has done before. Right before Solo Leveling Season 2 dropped in 2025, the series released the Solo Leveling: ReAwakening film at the end of 2024 to prime audiences for that big release.

Similarly, it looks like Solo Leveling could once again be gearing up to release a film in 2027, leading to the new season of the anime in 2028. It’s worth considering, as well, that the Solo Leveling: ReAwakening film wasn’t even announced by Crunchyroll and Sony until September 19, 2024 — just over 2 months before it released in late November.

Holding back the announcement until the movie is closer to dropping is normal for Solo Leveling.

In the lead-up to that announcement, Solo Leveling Producer Atsushi Kaneko has already begun making public appearances for the anime (such as his recent panel at Mumbai Comic Con) and promising “Grateful f00king happy news” is coming this year. Given that the next anime season is confirmed to still be around two years away, it’s highly likely Kaneko’s current press run is all in preparation for the movie instead.

The Solo Leveling Movie Is Set to Cover one of the Series’ Greatest Arcs

If and when the rumored Solo Leveling movie arrives, fans can expect some of the most hype scenes in the entire series. Most rumors and speculation around the movie have pointed to it being a full adaptation of the Recruitment, Ahjin and Double Dungeon Arcs of the manhwa.

Considering the pacing of the anime so far, that’s a pretty reasonable estimate if the movie doesn’t include a recap like ReAwakening did. Adapting those 3 arcs would consist of around 23 manhwa chapters, which is equivalent to around 6 episodes at the anime’s consistent pacing of around 4 chapters per episode.

That would be about 144 minutes of material, which is fairly conservative in an era when the biggest anime movie of 2025, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, was 155 minutes long.

A Solo Leveling movie covering Jinwoo’s return to the Cartenon Temple in the Double Dungeon Arc would definitely make the 2 years between its release and the end of Season 2 well worth the wait.

Solo Leveling Seasons 1 and 2 are currently streaming on Crunchyroll. The Solo Leveling manhwa and light novel are available to read in
