New Crash Bandicoot Game Leaked

According to a recent leak, a new Crash Bandicoot game could be in active development. This Crash Bandicoot rumor comes from the same leaker who released details of a new Spyro the Dragon game the day before its official announcement at the Xbox Showcase.

Making his debut back in 1996, Crash Bandicoot has had a long and storied history in the video game world. While Naughty Dog created the iconic PlayStation 1 mascot, the series has swapped hands several times since its debut, with Traveller’s Tales taking over mainline entries in the early 2000s while Vicarious Visions produced handheld spinoffs, and Radical Entertainment taking over the franchise in 2007. Following a seven-year hiatus and the release of the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, developer Toys for Bob created the first new mainline Crash Bandicoot entry in 12 years, delivering Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time in 2020, a revival that sold over 5 million copies by April 2024.

A New Crash Bandicoot Could be in Active Development

In the early hours of June 7, Twitter user @noarmsandnolegs posted an image of Crash Bandicoot to the social media platform with the accompanying caption: “A new Crash Bandicoot game is scheduled too, but will not be unveiled for the moment… Patience, Wumpa lovers!” This tweet was actually made in response to a post the leaker made a few hours earlier, which provided some alleged details about a rumored new entry in the Spyro the Dragon franchise.

According to @noarmsandnolegs’ post, the next Spyro the Dragon entry could feature a beach or island hub area, a well-known returning villain, and light RPG elements. The leaker also claimed that developer Toys for Bob had been working on the game for years and that the entry would likely be shown during the Xbox Showcase.

True to the leaker’s word, a brand-new Spyro the Dragon game, titled Spyro: A Realm Beyond, was officially announced during the latest Xbox Showcase on June 7, a day after the leaker’s post. All leaks should always be taken with a big pinch of salt, but if Spyro is making a comeback, then it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility to see a new Crash Bandicoot sometime soon, especially given Crash Bandicoot 4‘s commercial and critical success.

It’s important to note that @noarmsandnolegs didn’t expressly state which developer is working on the rumored new Crash Bandicoot game. Given that Toys for Bob made the last mainline Crash Bandicoot game and the party game spinoff Crash Team Rumble, it would make sense for the same studio to be working on any potential new Crash Bandicoot entries. That said, Toys for Bob is confirmed to be lead developer on Spyro: A Realm Beyond. It’s possible that both projects are in development at the same time at the same studio, but fans won’t know for sure until the next Crash Bandicoot is officially revealed. Regardless of who’s making it, the next Crash Bandicoot will likely be a day one Xbox Game Pass game, with it being an Activision-owned IP, and therefore a Microsoft-owned IP.
