Prime Video subscribers better get ready for three recent arrivals to the streaming service that promise to keep viewers engaged throughout the weekend. On last weekend’s Prime Video movie recommendations, I went over how subscribers had to check out Escape Room, The Notebook, and Serenity. At the time, Nathan Fillion’s sci-fi sequel to Firefly was trending in the United States.
Right now, none of those three films are on Prime Video’s nationwide Top 10 chart. That said, neither are the three movies that recently arrived on Prime Video, and I believe they are the best choices for subscribers this weekend, and that is okay. Last time around, we had a horror film, one of the best romances of all time, and an explosive sci-fi movie.
From three different genres, we go to two for this weekend’s Prime Video movie recommendations. This time around, there are two fantasy movies on the list. One of them ties in nicely to a film that is currently in theaters and not being watched by many, so you might fancy a go at the franchise at home instead.
The other fantasy movie sprinkles in horror elements with a star-studded cast. Speaking about major stars, this weekend’s Prime Video movie recommendations ensure that viewers get to watch some of the industry’s biggest names in action. Prepare to spend the weekend with Jenna Ortega, Gerard Butler, Courteney Cox, Michael Keaton, Dolph Lundgren, and many more on Prime Video.

Masters Of The Universe (1987)
To start us off is the 1987 Masters of the Universe movie. The fantasy film is an adaptation of the franchise that stars the hero He-Man, just like 2026’s Masters of the Universe. The latter is currently in theaters, but has only racked up $61.6 million worldwide, which means that many people are choosing not to make the trip to the cinema.
Well, the older Masters of the Universe movie, which arrived on Prime Video on June 1, emerges as the perfect alternative to check out the fantasy franchise from the comfort of home. The movie follows Dolph Lundgren’s He-Man as he travels to Earth with a couple of friends to escape the evil Skeletor and find an artifact to beat him. Courteney Cox, Frank Langella, Robert Duncan McNeill, and more also appear.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024)
Continuing on the topic of fantasy movies, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice arrived on Prime Video on June 4. Michael Keaton’s original Beetlejuice was released all the way back in 1988. As such, it seemed like the fantasy horror franchise was never coming back to theaters. Thankfully, the 2024 movie changed that and was a solid sequel, with a 76% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 78% audience score.
In Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Keaton returns as the eccentric title character, who is in pursuit of a mortal to marry. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice‘s cast is star-studded, featuring the return of franchise stars Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara, and the arrival of Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux, and more perfectly cast stars. Directed by Tim Burton from a screenplay by Wednesday creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the gothic film is a delight.

Plane (2023)
Ending our Prime Video movie recommendations is Plane, an action thriller that presents a high-stakes storyline and promises to inject viewers with a high dose of adrenaline to end the weekend. Plane is a two-hander starring Gerard Butler, one of the most beloved action stars in the industry, and Marvel Studios’ Luke Cage actor Mike Colter.
As its title suggests, Plane revolves around Butler’s Brodie Torrance, a pilot who saves the passengers on his plane from a bout with lightning, which requires an emergency landing. Once on the ground, he has to team up with Colter’s Louis Gaspare, a suspected murderer who was being transferred by the FBI, to save the passengers from the chaotic island’s rebels. Plane is a fast-paced ride that arrived on Prime Video this Friday, June 12, making it the perfect action thriller to have a good time on the weekend.
