Microsoft will be celebrating 25 years of Xbox with an all-new console and controller that will be available for a limited time. Both will feature a translucent “OG Green” design, intended to channel the look and feel of the original Xbox console that launched a quarter of a century ago.
The console has been dubbed the “Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition.” It includes the power and performance one would expect from the Xbox Series X, including 1 TB of storage. Its design will also mark the first time a translucent look has been given to the Xbox Series X. Official “Xbox 25” branding can also be seen on both the console and controller, which will be hitting select markets as a limited edition collection in November 2026. They will be sold separately, with more info on pricing and preorder availability coming soon.
Celebrate 25 Years of Xbox With an All-New Console
The Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition will include the original ABXY colors coupled with the translucent green, serving as a complete throwback to the console’s beginnings. It also includes the bumpers honoring the original back and white buttons on the classic “Duke” controller. The back case and battery door will be transparent, revealing the classic Xbox logo.
This will just be a part of the overall celebration that Microsoft has in store for the Xbox brand. Fans can also celebrate in person by attending the Xbox FanFest Tour, which will bring live events to players around the world. This includes stops in Cologne, London, Mexico City, Seattle, Sydney, Tokyo, and Toronto.
Additionally, there are expected to be many other surprises to come throughout the rest of the year, including more updates, freebies, and exclusive experiences.
It’s the Dawn of a New Era 25 Years Later
These updates follow other big changes that have been happening for Xbox players. One of the most notable differences is that Xbox Game Pass subscriptions have been lowered in price in order to make them more affordable to players. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma recently detailed in a memo sent to employees that their new goal is to have Xbox serving as the most dominant force in gaming, and part of the strategy involves better pricing along with looking back over the past 25 years at what worked best in the years before.
“Players are frustrated,” Sharma said. “New feature drops on console have been less frequent. Our presence on PC isn’t strong enough. Pricing is getting harder for people to keep up with. And core experiences like search, discovery, social, and personalization still feel too fragmented. Developers and publishers are asking for more, too: better tools, better insights, and a platform that helps them grow faster.”
She added, “Over the last five years, Xbox and the industry have been through an unimaginable amount of change, and this team has continued to deliver through it for our community. Thank you for staying focused on what matters… we’re proud of how we’ve honored our commitments of great games, return of Xbox, and future of play. We’re here to do the most creative and courageous work of our lives, and that’s what we’ll do together.”
