While it’s hard to believe that the first teaser trailer for The Elder Scrolls 6 dropped over 8 years ago now, it’s arguably even harder to believe just how active The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim community remains after nearly 15 years since it first released in 2011. In recent weeks, for example, gamers have received several big announcements from Bethesda for brand-new Skyrim content, such as the new Heart of the Mountain paid DLC.
While these new announcements for Skyrim are exciting in many respects, they’re also leaving players feeling conflicted, as every new update is a reminder that we still don’t have any news on The Elder Scrolls 6. Despite an optimistic official update from XBOX exec Matt Booty confirming the project is in good shape behind the scenes, it’s not much solace after the 8-year dry spell.
That said, there’s been yet another huge new announcement from Bethesda that will serve as a welcome distraction in the wait for TES6 news titled Skyrim: Nightblade, and this is one that you can snag entirely for free right now (via X).
Skyrim: Nightblade – Shadow Magic Unleashed is a brand-new officially approved Creations mod that Skyrim fans can download and play now entirely for free, and it’s an absolute monster. Nightblade includes “20 new spells, new weapon and armor enchantments, new food, a new player home, as well as a new follower descending from an ancient bloodline of Nightblades,” among other exciting new features.
The new Nightblade follower, Scarlet Star-Oak, has a fully established backstory tied to Ayleid shadow magic and Bosmeri traditions, while the mod also adds a new player home in the form of a modified Boulderfall Cave. “The modified cave and Player Home may be found southeast of Shor’s Stone … [and comes] furnished with a bed, safe storage, and a Nightblade workshop.”
The Creations mod also gives players an enhanced spell in the form of an overhauled Animage Illusion skill, which has been “modified to ‘Augmented Shadows’ and now increases Nightblade spell damage by 50%, much like the ‘Augmented Flames’ perk in the Destruction skill tree.”
Further, the mod introduces 20 unique new prayers, powers, and spells, as well as over a dozen new Nightblade Enchantments for unique weapons and armor, not to mention new lore books, bounties, and letters. All told, the Skyrim: Nightblade Creations mod is absolutely worth checking out if you’re a fan of the class, and is available to download for free now.
