Valve Confirms Steam Machine and Steam Frame Launch Window

Valve has finally confirmed that both the Steam Machine and Steam Frame VR headset can be expected to launch sometime this summer. The two devices were first announced in late 2025 alongside a redesigned Steam Controller, and Valve’s Steam Machine has since spent its time at the center of speculation about its potential price, availability, and manufacturing challenges. And, of course, almost everybody interested in purchasing it or the Steam Frame were eager to find out exactly when they’d be able to get their hands on one.

One of the major questions surrounding the Steam Deck in particular is its potential cost. Given the device’s cousin the Steam Deck recently received a fairly significant price hike, many people interested in grabbing Valve’s next gaming machine are expecting a similarly eye-watering price tag. Gamers in general have been having a hard time of it recently, as the industry faces rising component costs and scarcity. Microsoft announced a price increase for Xbox Series consoles in October 2025, with MSRP growing between $20 and $70 USD depending on the model. In April 2026, Sony raised the price of all PS5 models worldwide, marking the second hike in less than a year, with the price tag jumping by $100 to $150 in the U.S.

20 Years Ago, Valve Started an Incredible Story That It Still Hasn’t Finished

20 years after Valve started one of its most beloved and meaningful stories, it remains unresolved and the fans wonder if plans exist to wrap it up.

The Steam Machine and Steam Frame Expected ‘This Summer’

While definite release dates for the Steam Machine and Steam Frame have still not been announced, Valve has at least confirmed that both devices will be “shipping this summer.” The announcement was primarily centered around discussing the expanded Steam Verified program beyond the Steam Deck. According to the company, Steam Machine Verified requirements are nearly identical to those for Valve’s popular portable gaming PC. These standards are meant to let a player know how well a game will perform on the devices without additional configuration. And if a title already runs well on the Steam Deck, it should generally perform acceptably on the Steam Machine as well.

Understandably, community reaction on social media has largely focused on the continued absence of pricing details. However, despite the lack of a specific launch date or pricing for either device, those interested in grabbing one for their gaming setup still have reason to begin getting hyped. The confirmation of a summer launch window, which technically opens in a couple weeks signals that more precise information should be coming soon. Valve did previously confirm that the Steam Machine at least will not have a subsidized price and its MSRP will compete with PCs of similar specs. It’s possible that that price tag hasn’t yet been firmly solidified, given the still climbing costs of RAM and GPUs, both of which are key components of the small-form-factor PC. In a recent interview with Eurogamer, industry analyst Mat Piscatella stated that, all things considered, he expects the base model Steam Machine to cost around $1200 USD.

As for Valve’s upcoming standalone VR headset, the Steam Frame has likewise been on the receiving end of a lot of speculation about its likely price, with numbers ranging from $500 to $1000. The peripheral’s Snapdragon processor, onboard storage, Wi-Fi 7, eye tracking, and other premium features have some analysts expecting it to come in at the higher end of the spectrum. On the other hand, Valve’s possible desire to price the Steam Frame competitively with Meta Quest 3, combined with the company’s likely wish to expand SteamVR adoption in general, has other analysts arguing for a more accessible price tag. In late 2025, Valve itself said in an interview with Road to VR that it expects the new headset to be “cheaper than Index,” which costs approximately $1000 USD for the full kit: headset, controllers, and two tracking beacons.
