It’s a great time to be a He-Man fan, and Masters of the Universe allows audiences to revisit Eternia on the silver screen again after an almost 40-year hiatus. Early reviews are mixed, but we enjoyed what Masters of the Universe 2026 brings to the table, offering a fun origins story featuring the show’s colorful cast.
Nicholas Galitzine stars as Adam alongside Camila Mendes as Teela and Idris Elba as Duncan. Jared Leto also puts on a great performance as Skeletor, with the legendary villain being ridiculously over the top at times, as he is in the cartoons. Leto is wonderfully theatrical as Skeletor, yet also makes it clear that the character is evil to the core.
It’s too early to tell if we will get a Masters of the Universe sequel, but the movie certainly hints at the idea more than once. The 2026 film tells a solid standalone story in its own right, but Eternia feels ripe for expansion. Audiences are introduced to several characters who also seem more than ready for a new adventure, and the post-credit scenes hint at another tale waiting to be told.
Naturally, a Masters of the Universe sequel being greenlit depends on numerous factors. Big-budget projects need an audience to show up, and titles based on established IPs have the unenviable task of balancing the expectations of existing fans and newcomers.
We can only speculate at this point about whether we will get a Masters of the Universe 2. Still, here’s everything we know so far, including who could appear in a sequel and what the story may entail.
Will Masters Of The Universe 2 Happen?
It’s too early to say for certain whether a Masters of the Universe 2 will happen, but the production does find itself in a unique position. For starters, Masters of the Universe is an Amazon MGM movie. The title is enjoying a theatrical release but is likely to be released on the Prime Video streaming service in the future.
It’s too early to say how well or poorly Masters of the Universe will perform at the box office, but a weak showing at the theater may not necessarily doom a sequel. If the title bolsters Prime subscriptions and increases the service’s value, it could continue to generate revenue for the studio in a roundabout way for years to come.
Amazon MGM will also likely consider review scores, though they don’t necessarily align with viewer numbers. The Saw movies are a great example of this, with most installments boasting incredible takings despite lukewarm reviews.
Financial success will be a factor in a potential Masters of the Universe sequel, but there is some positive news. Director Travis Knight has already revealed he is keen to work on a sequel, saying, “I think about what happens next for Adam.” He also highlighted the importance of the movie’s performance and its potential impact on future stories, stating, “If the world doesn’t want them, we won’t tell them.” Knight said he had plans for a future tale where he would like to explore the fan-favorite characters’ relationships further.
Masters Of the Universe 2 Cast – Who Could Return?
Warning: This section contains heavy spoilers about Masters of the Universe.
The closing moments in Masters of the Universe give us some clues about who could feature in a sequel. The post-credit scenes also hint at two potential inclusions who didn’t even feature in the 2026 movie’s story.
Galitzine delivers a great portrayal of He-Man, and he will likely appear in a sequel alongside the other main heroes, Teela and Duncan. Trap Jaw destroyed Roboto earlier in the film, but we later see that Duncan has made some repairs, including a clear chest panel with visible cogs. It’s a respectful nod to Roboto’s design in the show.
We also see Cringer in his Battle Cat armor, and Eternian warriors like Fisto (Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson), Ram Man (Jon Xue Zhang), and Mekaneck (James Wilkinson) could reprise their roles. Dian (Christiaan Bettridge) isn’t a series mainstay, but she may return as she features quite prominently among Adams’ allies. Adams’ mother, Queen Marlena (Charlotte Riley), could feature, although King Randor (James Purefoy) is likely gone for good.
One villain almost guaranteed to return is Evil-Lyn (Alison Brie). She quietly snuck away during the final battle and returned, very much alive, during a post-credits scene. Interestingly, Evil-Lyn collected Skeletor’s skull during that moment, hinting that even he could return in some form.
We’ve covered most of the characters from the Masters of the Universe movie, but two more were teased during post-credit scenes. Fans were elated to see She-Ra, even if it was a brief reveal. We also saw her Sword of Protection, which looks different from Adam’s Sword of Power.
Fans also immediately recognized Orko. He’s a small, floating magical character, complete with a mage’s hat and red robes. Orko wishes the audience farewell in the 2026 movie. He wrapped up episodes of the show in a similar way, but he is also one of He-Man’s allies. Time will tell if he has a more prominent role in the future.
What Masters Of The Universe 2 Could Be About
Warning: This section contains heavy spoilers about the ending of Masters of the Universe.
There is so much established He-Man lore that the directors could choose to reference a specific story or make an entirely new one. However, if we do get a sequel, it will likely address a few very obvious unanswered questions from the 2026 movie.
At the end of Masters of the Universe, we see Adam leave to transform in private to deal with some sort of threat in Eternia. We have no idea what it is, but the post-credit scenes do provide some hints. Viewers clearly see Evil-Lyn leave Castle Grayskull during the final battle. She returns during a post-credit scene and collects Skeletor’s skull.
A sequel could feature Evil-Lyn as the main villain, and while the 2026 movie portrays her as subservient to Skeletor, her power should not be underestimated. Evil-Lyn is less impulse-driven than Skeletor in the show, making her a tricky adversary. As she takes Skeletor’s skull, we can assume she may have the means to bring him back.
We see that Skeletor treats Evil-Lyn poorly in Masters of the Universe, and there is some clear animosity between them. Whether Evil-Lyn is pulling the strings or puts a deadly plan into action with Skeletor, He-Man will likely need She-Ra’s help to save Eternia once again to justify the reveal.
