Underseen $87.5M Biblical Movie Is Officially No. 1 On Netflix

A biblical movie that was recently added to Netflix has already surged to the top of the United States streaming charts.

Multiple spiritual films and series are available to stream right now on Netflix, including I Can Only Imagine, The Forge (which leaves the streamer on June 21), Touched By An Angel, and Agape: The Unconditional Love. Meanwhile, Ruth & Boaz, Testament: The Story of Moses, Mary: Mother of Jesus, and Blue Miracle are among biblical Netflix originals on the platform.

The 2025 animated flick David, which was just added to Netflix on June 3, is currently the No. 1 movie on the popular streaming platform in the United States as of June 5, 2026. The Murder of Rachel Nickell, Goat, The Crash, and Bee Movie are also in the Top 5, with Creed III, Passengers, Creed, Creed II, and Swapped rounding out the rest of the Top 10.

David was released in theaters on December 19, 2025, just six days before Christmas. Brent Dawes and Phil Cunningham co-directed and co-wrote the film, with Steve Pegram, Tim Keller and Rita Mbanga serving as producers.

Phil Wickham voices the titular David, the biblical figure and shepherd from the Book of Samuel in the Old Testament, who sets out on a quest to fulfill his destiny of becoming the King of Israel, including going up against the giant Goliath. David is also featured in Prime Video’s live-action series House of David.

Miri Mesika, Sloan Lucas, Jonathan Shaboo, Jack Wagman, Brian Stivale, Mark Jacobson, Adam Michael Gold, Asim Chaudhry, Mick Wingert, Will de Renzy-Martin, Lauren Daigle, and Kamran Nikhad are among the rest of the voice cast.

After opening against films like Avatar: Fire and Ash, The Housemaid, and The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, David grossed $87.5 million at the box office and received mostly positive reviews from critics. The movie earned a solid 79% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie was released two years after its prequel animated series, Young David, which consists of five shorts. As the title suggests, the show centers on a younger version of the shepherd during his formative years growing up. Brandon Engman is the voice of young David in both the show and film, with Sloan Muldown, David Rosenber, and Edan Moses also a part of the cast. Dawes and Cunningham directed all the episodes.

Angel Studios, a production company best known for its faith-based content, produced both David and Young David. The company has started to branch out into other genres, including releasing an animated adaptation of George Orwell’s Animal Farm and the upcoming Young Washington, a historical film about the first U.S. president that will be released on July 3.

Until Young Washington is released, though, fans of Angel’s movies and shows can check out David on Netflix.
