The Strangers: Chapter 3 Find Redemption on Streaming

In a year of terrific horror movies, even the absurd misfires are finding success of their own kind. Just months after its underwhelming debut, The Strangers: Chapter 3 is rising on the streaming charts.

Despite receiving almost universally negative reviews, The Strangers: Chapter 3 has found redemption on Starz. According to FlixPatrol, the culmination of the latest Strangers trilogy is currently the No. 4 most-streamed movie on the platform in the United States. The film is also performing well in several international markets, where it is available on various platforms.

The Strangers: Chapter 3 Was the Disappointing Conclusion to an Underwhelming Trilogy

The Strangers: Chapter 3‘s surprise streaming success comes exactly four months after the film’s disappointing February release. It is the third part in a trilogy exploring the origins of the titular Strangers from previous entries in the horror franchise. All three installments were negatively received by audiences and critics, but the third may be the worst of them all.

The latest Strangers film earned an embarassing 18% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes (beat only by Chapter 2‘s 15%). Audiences weren’t much higher on the sequel, awarding it a 4.1/10 average rating on IMDb and a 50% approval rating from verified viewers.

If there was any chance of more Strangers films, Chapter 3 most likely killed the franchise for good. Against a low estimated budget of $8.5 million, the trilogy-ender earned only about $11 million, a fraction of its predecessors’ box office numbers. Each installment of the latest trilogy saw a massive drop in profits, confirming once and for all that the world is finished with The Strangers, even if it continues to barely live on through streaming.

2026 Has Much Better Horror Films to Obsess Over

There are infinitely better horror options from 2026 than The Strangers: Chapter 3. As a matter of fact, two of the best films the genre has to offer are currently dominating the box office. The first is Obsession, from rising filmmaker Curry Barker, who directed 2024’s surprise hit, Milk & Serial. The film sports a tremendous 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is currently outperforming major franchise tentpoles like The Mandalorian and Grogu and Masters of the Universe.

Also revolutionizing the horror genre is The Backrooms, directed by 20-year-old filmmaker Kane Parsons. Based on the popular web series of the same name, The Backrooms is one of the scariest horror movies of 2026, while also building out a surprisingly compelling library of lore that could set up an entire new franchise.

There are many better horror movies released in 2026 than The Strangers: Chapter 3. Still, if a guilty pleasure is what horror fans are looking for on their next movie night, the controversial trilogy-ender continues to perform well on Starz.
