The Boys Officially Return in a Brand-New Story Available Now

Fans of The Boys are about to get the chance to dive into the world of their favorite twisted superhero series courtesy of a brand-new VR title.

The Boys streaming series might be over, but the fight for the future is still raging on in The Boys: Trigger Warning. Developed by ARVORE, The Boys: Trigger Warning was released for the Meta Quest on March 26, and just recently made its way to the PlayStation VR2, giving an even greater number of gamers access to one of the most brutal virtual reality experiences of the year.

The Boys: Trigger Warning Is Perfect for Fans of the Prime Video Series

The Boys: Trigger Warning drops players into the role of Lucas Costa, an ordinary family man whose life is turned inside out when a family outing becomes a nightmarish encounter with the premier Vought heroes of yesteryear — the Armstrongs. This kicks off a harrowing quest for revenge unlike any Lucas ever imagined, one which might just deal a fatal blow to one of Vought’s greatest assets.

The official game description for The Boys: Trigger Warning reads, “The Boys drag Lucas back from the brink, juice him with powers, and throw him headfirst into their filthy underground war against Vought and its Supes. With Butcher and Mother’s Milk guiding from the shadows, Lucas sets off on a no-mercy hunt to put the Armstrongs in the ground.”

Throughout their The Boys: Trigger Warning, players will be able to take on any given mission in just about any way they see fit. Apart from the usual stealth and combat mechanics, The Boys: Trigger Warning will give players access to a variety of Gen V compounds that will imbue them with powers ranging from hand blades to active camouflage to their very own Homelander laser eyes.

Players will also be able to explore iconic locales from the streaming series, including the 99th floor made famous by The Seven, as well as “facilities that don’t exist.” The Boys: Trigger Warning will also feature the return of multiple The Boys stars voicing their iconic characters, with Laz Alonso, Colby Minifie, P.J. Byrne, and Jensen Ackles all appearing in the game.

After 40 episodes and five seasons, the hit The Boys streaming series, based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s hit comic book series of the same name, finally came to an end. While the finale was just as brutal as fans were expecting, it was met with a surprising amount of backlash from an equally surprising number of viewers, many of whom felt it didn’t quite do justice ot some of the series’ most beloved characters.

The Boys developer and showrunner Erik Kripke recently addressed this response, noting that, “Obviously, there are a lot of unhappy people online, but there are two things I would say: First, I’m just glad people are passionate, legitimately. My job is to make people passionate about the work I put out. If they’re arguing about it and hating it and fighting, that’s all passion, man. You’re watching, and that’s all good. My job is to get an emotional reaction, not necessarily to dictate what that emotional reaction is.”

“We have way north of 60 million viewers, so that makes the online storm, which feels very all-encompassing, actually a fraction of a single percentage point,” Kripke continued. “Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, of course, and I’m sorry if I disappointed you, but it was the story I wanted to tell. You just have to put it into perspective of it being a reasonably small, vocal audience when the vast majority seem to be happily tuning in.”

The Boys: Trigger Warning is available now for Meta Quest and PlayStation VR2.
