The Batman 2 Feels Closer Than Ever After New Update

Finally, a major filming update on The Batman Part II that actually has legs to stand on. To be clear, there has been no shortage of headlines surrounding the sequel to Matt Reeves’ 2022 gem, including several bombshells on the casting front (more on that in a moment), but shooting still hasn’t begun and that has some fans nervous over a potential delay beyond the scheduled 2027 release date.

Have no fear though, thanks to Colin Farrell. The award-winning actor who will reprise his role as Os[wald] Cobblepot a.k.a. The Penguin opposite Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne just dropped some news Batman fans can truly sink their teeth into.

According to Farrell, a damn good source by all measures, The Batman Part II is only days away from filming.

The Batman Part II Begins Filming ‘In a Week’

“They start, I think, in a week,” he told Collider.

That is amazing news that all but puts to bed any concerns over a possible delay, at least for now. The holdup to this point has been the wildly busy schedule of Pattinson, who headlines three movies in 2025 alone — Mickey 17, Marty Supreme and Die, My Love — with a total of five, yes, five, new films slated for release in 2026, namely, The Drama, Primetime, Here Comes the Flood and blockbusters Dune: Part Three and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.

Pattinson now has a pocket to dedicate his time entirely to helping Reeves make The Batman Part II an epic showing that they, and James Gunn, hope will send the DC Elseworlds title into orbit.

“It’ll be an amazing set to be on,” Farrell explained. “The script, I’ve said before … it’s extraordinary. It really is. Matt is just so brilliant, and he just cares so deeply about the stories he tells.”

As for when Farrell will begin bringing The Penguin to The Batman Part II goes, the expectation is that he’ll begin filming his parts in just over one month from now — although it does sound as if his role may not be as major as some speculate.

“I will fly to London in four or five weeks,” he said. “I haven’t got much to do on it, but I’ll go for four or five weeks. I’ll be there for a few weeks. I’m so excited to see it as a fan.”

Farrell joins a growing ensemble cast that includes not only Pattinson, obviously, but also Marvel Studios defectors Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan, though the latter recently declared his desire to be a double agent, so to speak, going forward. Additionally, The Batman Part II will feature Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings, has brought in Charles Dance (Game of Thrones) and a list of other newcomers that reportedly include the star of the new Clayface film, Tom Rhys Harries.

Things are officially, and formally, underway for The Batman Part II, and that means 2027 should be one hell of a ride in the Batmobile.

The Batman Part II is scheduled to fly into theaters on October 1, 2027.
