Daveigh Chase, the original voice of Lilo in Lilo & Stitch (2002), has died at the age of 35.

Born on July 24, 1990, in Las Vegas, Nevada, the actress began her career with small television appearances before landing the role of Samantha Darko in Donnie Darko and voicing the lead role of Chihiro Ogino in the English dub of Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away (both 2001) before she portrayed the child antagonist, Samara Morgan, in The Ring (2002).

Now, according to TMZ with confirmation from Deadline, Daveigh Chase has died at 35. Her boyfriend, Roy Hernandez, told TMZ that she died on Tuesday after developing meningitis and a bloodstream infection, the resulting sepsis causing severe complications, and ultimately leading to organ failure. TMZ also reports that Daveigh was hospitalized in Los Angeles earlier this month due to malnutrition.

Hernandez had recently set up a GoFundMe page for Chase as her health declined. In the post, Hernandez wrote that “Daveigh was diagnosed with meningitis and several serious blood infections. Her condition has become critical, and the doctors have told me she may not have much time left.”
