Have the X-Men found their new Rogue? The original live-action franchise presented by 20th Century Fox in the early 2000s is thankfully, and finally, being rebooted within the Marvel Cinematic Universe beginning with their upcoming appearance in Avengers: Doomsday in December 2026, and one horror star in particular would love to take on the role of Rogue.
Sophie Thatcher has recently made serious waves in the industry as co-star of the acclaimed 2025 horror film Companion and as a lead in Showtime’s popular thriller drama Yellowjackets. It appears she now wants to try her hand in the superhero genre as well, and she’s got a surge of fan support attempting to push her and Marvel to the table together to talk about it.
Thatcher was recently asked if she sees the groundswell of fancasting with her name attached to Rogue, and took an added step in addressing if she’s interested in becoming one of the most popular X-Men characters of all-time.
Rogue Drawing Interest of Companion, Yellowjackets Star
“I see what I [am] tagged [in], yeah. ” she told Josh Horowitz of the Happy Sad Confused? podcast of the fancasting.”And I’m like, ‘Interesting.'”
There’s a catch though, as Thatcher unapologetically made clear. If she’s to take on the role of Rogue for the X-Men reboot in the MCU, one that will include multiple films beginning in 2027, it can’t be robotic — no pun intended toward the woman formerly known as Iris, the sentient AI humanoid robot.
“I’m open [to playing Rogue] if it’s a director who’s down to collaborate and listen to me. I want to have a voice,” Thatcher said. “I know that’s absolutely possible, and people do that all the time, but I would want to make sure it’s the right story being told. Especially if it’s such a huge franchise.”
She continued: “It’s like that itself has such an impact, and I want to make sure it’s the right story. [It’s] not just spreading violence and shock value, but something meaningful.”
Sophie Thatcher the Next Rogue? On One Condition …
The director in question is Jake Schreier, the very one who lent his talents to Thunderbolts* in 2025, a film that initially flew under the radar before taking the MCU and its fans by storm. It was Schreier that confirmed a hard reboot for X-Men is in the works, stating his goal was to mostly start from scratch, save for the return of several original faces to jumpstart the vehicle (such as James Marsden, Alan Cumming, Sir Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and Kelsey Grammer).
“I would say that we are aiming to do something that feels like a fresh start and going for something that feels new,” Schreier told MovieWeb. “And, really, something that Kevin [Feige] has pushed for is this idea of, ‘What can we do within this world?’
That does leave the door wide open for the onboarding of new faces into the X-Men franchise, like Thatcher, but she’ll have to brush up on the source material quite a bit if she’s to do right by Rogue, should she get the role.
“It’s the blue people? So, I’m going to get a lot of hate on that one,” she said with a laugh. “Jennifer Lawrence in, like, blue. Mystique. I’m open. Yes. Always. I’m open to anything.”
