GTA Online “Final” Expansion Before GTA 6 Has Gamers Seriously Hyped

Grand Theft Auto 6 inches closer with every passing day, but Grand Theft Auto 5 isn’t dead and buried yet. Well over a decade after its original release, GTA 5 lives on through the incredibly popular GTA Online, and updates for the multiplayer component of the game are still going strong.

While the next expansion hasn’t been revealed quite yet, there’s good reason to believe a specific launch date that’s just around the corner. Even more interestingly, that day could be the key to figuring out when the next trailer for GTA 6 will land, and it has certain fans feeling hyped about the prospect.

X user GTA 6 Countdown laid out the math, establishing that GTA Online‘s next DLC will likely release on Tuesday, July 14 (a more detailed analysis of this assertion can be found on Rockstar Intel). According to GTA 6, this makes the following four dates likely candidates for the next GTA 6 trailer:

  • July 7
  • July 21
  • July 28
  • August 4

The first two July dates hinge on the FIFA World Cup schedule, as the enormous soccer event could provide strong advertising opportunities for Rockstar. July 28 and August 4, meanwhile, would allow Rockstar to get the trailer in ahead of the next earnings call for parent company Take-Two Interactive.

Rockstar has a solid track record of using Tuesday as the standard for major releases, which serves as the bedrock for this particular lineup of dates. Dropping the trailer on the same day as a GTA Online update would completely overshadow the update, so it does now seem like July 14 is off the table.

Fans are naturally the most excited about the possibility of a July 7 trailer, as that would mean less than a month of waiting for the next big reveal. X user Project Vice argues that dropping the trailer before the update “would be a cool way to tie in GTA VI with new DLC,” while RockStation simply accompanies “7th gang” with a 100 emoji.

Others, however, are simply exhausted by the long waits and endless speculation. John Greg shares an “I’m tired, boss” gif from The Green Mile, and Resident Sithis claims to have “basically lost interest in the game at this point.”

Despite the general fatigue, there’s little doubt that the third Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer will set the community on fire when it drops. Hopefully, the optimism for a July 7 release will end up panning out.
