The next major Pokémon competitor has officially announced a release window, and Aniimo is coming sooner than gamers might expect.
During the Future Games Show, developer Pawprint Studio officially released the latest trailer for the upcoming creature-catching open-world RPG Aniimo. Currently slated to launch in the Fall, Aniimo will be opening up a new Global Closed Beta Test, which will take place this Summer on PC via platforms such as Steam and on iOS and Android mobile devices. Registration for access to the next Beta Test is currently open through the official Aniimo website.
Aniimo Is the Perfect Open-World Pokémon Successor
Announced back in 2025 during the Xbox Games Showcase, Aniimo is a clear competitor to Pokémon, though it isn’t nearly as derivative as titles like Palworld. Set in an expansive and colorful open world on the continent known as Idyll, Aniimo offers players near endless opportunities for exploration as they take on various challenges and eventually capture their own Aniimo, monstrous creatures with their own unique types and abilities.
Rather than merely capturing, training, and battling their Aniimo, players, or Pathfinders, will be able to form a direct connection to and quite literally merge with their favorite creatures via a process known as Twining. This opens up entirely new ways for Pathfinders to tackle any given task, not to mention new ways for them to traverse and explore the vast continent Idyll as they continue on in their Aniimo experience.
The official game description for Aniimo from Pawprint Studio reads, “Aniimo is a free-to-play, next-gen creature-catching open-world RPG. Explore the vast continent of Idyll, Twine with unique Aniimo, unlock new abilities. Travel to a sky-floating metropolis, meet other Pathfinders, and battle in exciting competitions. Choose your Aniimo and begin your epic journey!”
Aniimo also allows players to customize their home base as an in-game RV. As noted on the Aniimo Steam page, “When you return to Homeland with your RV, you can plant crops, build decorations, and freely arrange your space with Aniimo to transform the entire Homeland into a warm, fun, and interactive immersive paradise.” Pathfinders can also take their RV to in-game camp sites to meet and explore with other players.

Speaking to CBR’s David Jagneaux earlier this year, the development team at Pawprint Studio responded to questions about the RV and other co-op features in Aniimo, which were only recently added to the then-latest version of the Beta version of the game at the time. “Players can decide for themselves how to explore the world, and they’re welcome to invite friends to join their team and explore the world together,” the developers explained.
“We’re excited to see how players enjoy these improved features,” the developers continued. “Whilst there is plenty to keep players busy on solo missions, we’ve introduced many new features that enhance the multiplayer experience in Aniimo, and we hope that players will find opportunities to share their knowledge about the Aniimo, communicate with their friends in the open world, and team up to overcome challenges differently.”
The upcoming Global Closed Beta Test for Aniimo will continue to introduce new elements to the game, including a new region, the water-themed Island of Peace, as well as new features in Astra and home-building options. Players will also be introduced to new Aniimo such as Bubbeep, Popapus, Mophling, and Sausite, as well as new Aniimo forms such as Budscquire and Thornblade.
Aniimo is currently slated for release this Fall.
