First Look at the New Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake on Switch 2

A full-blown Nintendo Switch 2 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has been officially revealed at the latest Nintendo Direct. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is already one of the highest-reviewed games of all time, so many will argue that it’s not really necessary, especially because every version of it holds up so well. That said, seeing it improved and played on the Nintendo Switch 2 is going to be equally exciting to all fans.

Prior to this Direct, known insider Nate the Hate leaked the existence of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Corroborating reports popped up all over, while including other new Zelda game rumors like the Ganondorf spin-off akin to Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and the next major mainline release, the follow-up to Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (which reportedly features cross-dimensional gameplay). While the jury is still out on some of these rumors, the official first look at Ocarina of Time on Switch is nothing to scoff at.

New Nintendo Switch 2 Model Officially Revealed

Nintendo officially confirms a brand new model of the beloved Nintendo Switch 2 and the key improvement it brings.

Ocarina of Time Remake Hits Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026

The trailer begins with a new voiceover focused on this version of Hyrule and honed in on Kokiri Forest before showing off Link in a tapestry with the Great Deku Tree. That tapestry gives way to fans’ first official look at the new graphics in the Ocarina of Time remake, which are notably more impressive than both the Nintendo 64 and Nintendo 3DS versions. Unfortunately, the trailer ends quickly after this glimpse, confirming a release window of 2026. It does not outright confirm the Holiday season, though not only is that the logical date, but it’s also the one hinted at by Nate the Hate.

While it’s uncertain as of this writing if this is mostly a graphical remaster or a more in-depth remake, the former seems more likely after this trailer. It was minimalist and simplistic in its scope, showing a scene that anyone who has played it has no doubt memorized. There’s a lot more to show about its environments, characters, and so forth, but for a first look, it’s clear that Nintendo knows it cannot mess with Ocarina of Time too much. It’s not my personal favorite Zelda game, but there’s no denying it’s many folks’. And that’s arguably even more important than the critical reception.

Nothing else was mentioned about the other rumored Zelda games, though nothing was really expected to be at this event. With the confirmation that this releases in 2026, it does seem that the possible timeline of Ganondorf spin-off in 2027 and new open-world Zelda game in 2028 is possible. But that’s getting ahead when this remake is right here.

With only 6 months left in 2026, it’s uncertain when Ocarina of Time will release. Months like October, but September especially, are filling up quickly to avoid GTA 6 in November. Ocarina of Time doesn’t really have to worry about it, so I could see it releasing in November ahead of Black Friday. At the same time, early December, ahead of Christmas, makes perfect sense—many would no doubt seek to reinvent the nostalgia of their childhood.
