The Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy really has been an epic project and a return to a glorious era for the franchise, as we see one of the best stories in the series to date brought back in a way that many never thought it would. The ambition of dividing the game up into three parts to really give each section the attention it deserves was inspired, and what we’ve had so far has most importantly been very fun to play.
Thus far, we have had two of the promised three parts, with Remake and Rebirth setting us up for the game’s thrilling conclusion. That final release is set to drop next year at some point, but we still don’t know what it’s going to be called, and fans have all sorts of ideas about the best course of action for Square Enix.
Over on Reddit, one user shared a post asking the community what they think the final game in the series should be called, and there was a huge mix of genuinely interesting ideas.
“My coin is on Return but anything’s possible at this point. I also think the color of the logo will be orange this time if the whispers at the end of Remake are anything to go by (and they have so far),” one comment read.
While another added, “Redux is an interesting one: An adjective that means brought back, revived, or restored. It comes from the Latin word reducere (“to bring back”). In everyday language, “redux” is used to describe something that has returned or is happening all over again.”
“I firmly stand on the ground that it’s going to be called Return and that this was teased ages ago. In one of the first trailers of Remake it said something along the lines of “The return draws closer” and the word “Return” was on screen for an oddly long while before the trailer continued. No way that’s a coincidence,” a third said.
“Should have been Reunion, but CC:R got that one. My prediction would be Return, even if it’s a bad call. My hope is Reunite, as in we reunite the different timelines into a definite timeline where everything ends up as it should,” another added.
In any case, we hopefully shouldn’t have too long to wait to find out exactly what the developer has been cooking up with the last part of the Final Fantasy VII remake, with more news expected later this year, or early in 2027, ahead of release.
