Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Suffers Major Streaming Blow in Latest Update

It has been almost a year since Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle first hit the big screen in Japan. However, a streaming release continues to elude fans, and a recent update only spells more disappointment for those hoping to watch the film from the comfort of their home.

According to the franchise’s official X account, the Infinity Castle movie is set to hit theaters in Japan once again this month. The film will receive a limited-time re-release from June 12 to June 18 across various prefectures nationwide. This surprise return to the big screen is being organized to commemorate the movie’s win at the inaugural Cinema Awards earlier this year, giving audiences another opportunity to experience it in all its glory.

The movie had previously been re-released in the United States, the UK and Canada in March 2026.

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Once Again Gets Theatrical Re-release

This latest theatrical push means that fans looking forward to watching Infinity Castle on streaming platforms will have to wait longer. In fact, there have been no official updates on a streaming release window for the movie, which has frustrated audiences.

On top of that, while a home video release for Infinity Castle has been announced, with both the Blu-ray and DVD versions set to arrive on July 29, the release has only been officially confirmed for the Japanese market. This means that international fans will still be grasping at straws. However, Infinity Castle is part of Crunchyroll’s lineup at the Anime Expo this year, giving fans hope that it might hit the platform soon.

The anticipation for Infinity Castle’s streaming debut is quite high, considering how well the movie was received by audiences since its premiere. During its original theatrical run, which concluded on April 9, Infinity Castle broke multiple box office records, including the highest-ever opening weekend collection for an anime movie in the United States.

The movie earned over US$740 million globally, making it the highest-grossing anime film worldwide. It also currently ranks as the second-highest-grossing film in Japan with 40.2 billion yen, trailing the franchise’s previous entry — Demon Slayer: Mugen Train. However, this new re-release might push Infinity Castle to overtake its predecessor at the domestic box office.

Demon Slayer: Mugen Train originally set the bar high for the franchise in 2020 with an incredible 40.75 billion yen haul. In addition to its overwhelming box-office success, Infinity Castle won multiple awards, most recently taking home the Crunchyroll Anime Award in the Film of the Year category.

Serving as the first installment in a trilogy of films, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle adapts the final story arc of Koyoharu Gotouge’s original manga. The plot follows Tanjiro Kamado and the Hashira as they are drawn into a sprawling, multidimensional fortress — the Infinity Castle — and forced into confrontations with Muzan Kibutsuji’s remaining Upper-Rank demons. Despite being an Upper Rank, Akaza, who made a return after appearing in Mugen Train, was the standout character in the first part.

Demon Slayer anime’s earlier seasons, and even the Mugen Train movie, are currently available to stream on Crunchyroll and Netflix.
