Chainsaw Man Tops Japan’s Billboard Charts With Final Manga Volume

Chainsaw Man Part 2 has dealt with a lot of ups and downs in terms of sales, but it’s finally back on top.

Immediately following the release of Chainsaw Man Volume 24 June 4, the manga topped Billboard’s Japan Book Hot 100. Billboard released its latest data on June 11, and it highlights a major trend for Tatsuki Fujimoto’s instant modern shonen manga classic.

While Chainsaw Man‘s divisive ending led to some uncertainty about how it would be received when all was said and done, it’s clear that the short-term criticism has given way to long-term appreciation.

Chainsaw Man’s Final Volume Release Tops Japan’s Book Sales Charts

The end of Denji’s story is just the start of a new beginning for the Chainsaw Man franchise as a whole.

Chainsaw Man Volume 24’s dominance at the top of Billboard’s charts shouldn’t come as any surprise considering the impressive numbers it has been doing since the final volume’s release on June 4. According to Oricon’s latest sales data released on June 12, Chainsaw Man Volume 24 sold over 84,000 copies in around a week.

But it’s about more than just sales. According to Billboard’s website, the Japan Book Hot 100 is “a comprehensive chart combining physical sales, e-books, library loans, subscription data and social media activity.”

Coming behind Chainsaw Man at the number 2 and 3 spots were Dandadan Volume 24 and Boruto – Two Blue Vortex – Volume 8.

Chainsaw Man Volume 24 marks the conclusory chapter of the Chainsaw Man manga, culminating in an ending that has proven divisive for shonen manga fans. While the initial reaction to Chainsaw Man’s ending was largely negative, the months following its release have seen a resurgence of interest in it as fans have had time to process and analyze the last chapters.

At least part of the turnaround in public reception can be attributed to the physical release of Chainsaw Man Volume 24 in Japan.

While the final volume didn’t include very much in the way of additional content, what it did include was widely well received among the fandom. That includes a final cover art that’s already considered one of Fujimoto’s best, and a last piece of art that showcases a new side of Denji that gives his character arc some much-needed closure.

There’s currently no official release date for Chainsaw Man Volume 24’s English translation, but fans have plenty to look forward to from the series in the meantime.

MAPPA has already confirmed that new information about Chainsaw Man Season 2 will be revealed during its 15th Anniversary stream on June 19, and there will even be a new CSM project revealed as well.

The entire Chainsaw Man manga can be read in English via Viz Media, Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump app.
