With rumors of an Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remake circulating for years, the official reveal of Black Flag Resynced this April has been one of the year’s biggest announcements so far. Assassin’s Creed fans are counting down the days for its release on July 9 for most major platforms. Further, with the Summer Game Fest 2026 Resynced showcase that gave us a more in-depth look at the overhauled graphics and gameplay, hype is at its peak right now.
Originally released in 2013, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is a long-time fan-favorite thanks to its unmatched open-world exploration, focus on naval combat, and its charismatic lead protagonist, Edward Kenway. Although many details are still under wraps for the remake, the reveal alone has been enough to generate significant buzz as players prepare to return to the Golden Age of Piracy.
And if you’re looking for a great way to immerse yourself in the world of Black Flag ahead of Resynced’s release in July, there’s an official new sequel set to arrive on June 18 (via Amazon), available for pre-order now.
Assassin’s Creed: Forgotten Temple Volume 3 is a brand-new adventure set after the events of Black Flag that follows Edward Kenway on “one last swashbuckling mission.” The third volume in the graphic novel series was officially released on May 19 via other outlets such as VIZ, but is getting a re-release via Amazon on June 18 on pre-order at a relatively cheaper price. Further, fans can pre-order Volume 4 now as well, which is set to release officially on August 18, 2026.
The full description for Assassin’s Creed: Forgotten Temple Volume 3, which runs roughly 200 pages long and comes in trade paperback, is as follows:
Conflict is a constant in Kenway’s life, but he’s never navigated one like this before! Madam Lee has proved a formidable ally, but nothing can last forever in a world as fraught with deception and violence as this one. Plus, Noa Kim’s search bleeds into his real life, and he discovers some interesting changes in himself!
With the upcoming launch of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, players can expect a fully modernized adaptation of the 2013 original, with major gameplay, story, and quality-of-life upgrades. Combat has been overhauled with smoother animations, more responsive swordplay, improved parries, and expanded tools, while parkour and stealth reportedly feel closer to newer Assassin’s Creed entries, according to ScreenRant’s own Ewan Moore after a hands-on preview.
The remake also adds a more dynamic Caribbean, with upgraded weather and ocean conditions affecting exploration and naval travel. Several frustrating mission types, especially tailing and eavesdropping objectives, have been reworked to be less annoying, specifically by reducing the instant-fail conditions that were a huge issue in the original.
Naval gameplay is also being expanded through new Jackdaw upgrades and broader quality-of-life improvements. And on the story side, Resynced adds character-focused quests and a completely redesigned modern-day narrative that better connects Black Flag to the larger Assassin’s Creed timeline. All told, it’s one of the most exciting projects in the franchise in years, and fans cannot wait to get their hands on it next month.
