After A 3-Year Hiatus, Acclaimed Supernatural Action Comic Covenant Will Get The Finale It Deserves (Exclusive)

The Webtoon platform has been home to many fan-favorite hits out of the West, from Chelsey Han’s unOrdinary, to Graveweaver’s I’m the Grim Reaper, but it’s not always necessarily the permanent residence for some of its most beloved stories. Such is the case with Covenant, created by LySandra Vuong aka Explodikid, equal parts supernatural action and queer romance that commands an immense following, with 29.3 million views, 738,600+ followers, and a wild cliffhanger season 2 finale on July 6, 2024. Despite confirmation that the series would no longer publish on Webtoon, Vuong clearly stated they still had huge plans to for the finale.

Now, courtesy of Oni Press, ScreenRant is proud to share the news of Covenant: The Final Chapter, the sixth and final volume concluding the saga of Ezra and Sunny that will only be available in glorious print format. The volume will debut in stores July 2027, with readers given the early opportunity to reserve a copy and pledge their support via Kickstarter this Pride Month. Additionally, Vuong and Oni Press have shared the gorgeous cover art for Covenant’s long-awaited, epic finale, along with multiple exciting collectibles to commemorate the occasion.

Queer Action Romantasy Covenant Unveils Kickstarter Campaign & Final Volume Cover Art

Set to release three years after the debut of episode #90, in which Ezra pulls himself in with Sunny as he plunges into Hell to find and stop his father, Covenant: The Final Chapter promises a scorching finale and, ideally, readers get the answers to several burning questions. The cover art for the final volume certainly teases a reconciliation bridging the forces, or at least two key representatives, of Heaven and Hell, with Ezra’s Blessing and Sunny’s Nephilim power juxtaposing nicely just as they have in the previous five print releases. But with humanity at risk of becoming collateral damage in a supernatural war, Ezra refuses to let Sunny go alone in shutting this catastrophe down.

“COVENANT VOL. 6 finally gives us answers to some of the biggest questions haunting the series. Who is Sunny’s dad? And what’s his end game? Will Sunny and Ezra actually face this thing that is growing between them while they try to stop him? This book contains everything I have been looking forward to bringing to life for a very long time.”

-LySandra Vuong, Creator of Covenant

Covenant’s adoring fandom will be delighted to hear they can directly support Vuong and the hit series as it gets the finale it deserves. In addition to the campaign featuring the softcover release of Covenant volume #6, the Kickstarter campaign will detail other collectible goods for passionate readers eager to upgrade their Covenant collection even further. Options will include “exclusive merchandise, collectible items designed side-by-side with series creator LySandra Vuong, and three limited-edition deluxe hardcovers, collecting the entire series” featured in greater detail on the Kickstarter page.

Covenant’s Final Volume Will Conclude A Nearly Seven-Year Saga

The story of Covenant has come a long way since its tantalizing debut, pitting exorcists of the Church of Providence against the demonic forces poised to infiltrate them and bring harm to humanity. The story’s central young priest, Ezra, struggles with a crisis of faith which, while somewhat confusing upon a glance, had more to do with reconciling the reality he witnesses against what is taught. In Vuong’s own words, beyond the supernatural action elements, Covenant is about “finding your place in a world that expects you to be something you’re not.”

This journey allows Ezra to find his own conviction even in the absence of conventional assumptions about faith. After all, the only way he can awaken the blessing of his patron archangel, Gabriel, is by finding just that, even if it means wholeheartedly rejecting an angel. But in the process, Ezra seizes his agency like never before.

2 New Star Trek Series Announced, And They’re Taking The Franchise In A Bold Direction (Exclusive)

Star Trek has two brand-new canon adventures building on classic worlds across The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager.

With Ezra’s singular focus now protecting Sunny even as they go to Hell together to confront Sunny’s father, readers will get a conclusion to the pair’s romantic arc, as well. Upon Sunny’s introduction as part of Gabriel’s premeditated meet cute, Ezra being charged with his protection, it was infinitely clear that the story would then heavily focus on their endearing, slow-burn romance. However, given Ezra’s divine responsibilities, and Sunny being “the fallen who never fell”, in a grand webcomic tradition, opposites attract well for the realm of supernatural romantasy.

Covenant: The Final Chapter appears to be the exact right move in concluding what’ll soon be a nearly seven-year saga for Vuong’s story, with the finale giving ample time for them to nail its execution. This was Vuong’s debut comic, after all, but their work has gradually continued ahead of Covenant’s resumption, with their Instagram detailing recent projects like a 20-page Heated Rivalry doujinshi (as an artist of culture) and the rest of Covenant’s print releases, among other exploits. For more news on Covenant’s upcoming finale, be sure to keep the Kickstarter bookmarked as well as have a keen eye on both Vuong’s and publisher Oni Press’ Instagram accounts.
