8 Years Later, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime’s Rimuru Is Meeting His Match

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime has been Crunchyroll’s favorite isekai series since it came out nearly a decade ago, and it’s finally back to its absolute best. The first season was amazing, the second was solid, but the third lacked the magic that makes the franchise great.

The fourth season is taking Rimuru and his friends back to their roots, and it feels like the series hasn’t been this good in years. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is back to world-building, and it’s one of the best in the genre at it.

It has also introduced one of the best villains to date in Maribel Rozzo. She’s another reincarnated person from the same world as Rimuru, and like the great leader of Tempest, she has one of the most overpowered Unique Skills the genre has introduced thus far.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime’s Fourth Season Has Been Great

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime season 4

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is at its best when its world-building. The first season was amazing because it showed just how far a lowly slime could go. Rimuru started out as a blind, deaf, powerless monster and slowly transformed into one of the most powerful characters in the franchise.

Now that Tempest is a fully-fledged nation-state, Rimuru is bringing his country and his people to the world stage. He’s looking to realize his dream of harmony between monsters and men, and everything was going well until the Rozzos stepped in. They want nothing to do with monsters, and they’ve been nothing short of a thorn in Rimuru’s side.

Most isekai villains don’t ever have a chance of succeeding. One of the most common tropes found in isekai is that when the main character is reincarnated into a new world, they get a host of new, incredibly overpowered abilities. Not only are they ridiculously strong the moment they enter, they also usually keep all of their memories, giving them an immediate advantage over everyone around them.

Rimuru has used his otherworldly knowledge to his advantage, creating an entire nation based on what he remembered from his past life. A few of the major villains he encountered had no such knowledge, nor did they have the overpowered Unique Skills that dominate the world of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, but season four’s main villain has both.

Not only was Maribel reincarnated from the same world as Rimuru, she was a conqueror in her past life as well. She has decades of experience working behind the scenes and orchestrating the world to her liking. She also possesses Greed, an incredibly powerful Skill that allows her to control the inherent greed in anyone around her.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime has finally put Maribel in Rimuru’s path, right in time for the season finale. It’s set to be an excellent battle, made even better by Maribel’s usage of the Chaos Dragon to distract Milim. It’s going to be a great run of episodes, and we can’t wait to see what exactly That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is going to bring to the table.
