10 Strongest Dragon Ball Characters Who Aren’t Saiyans

Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball has introduced dozens of impossibly powerful characters who continue to top themselves and experience unprecedented strength, with Saiyans like Goku and Vegeta being the strongest and most prominent. Simply by genetic luck, Saiyans benefit from a tiered transformation system that many other Dragon Ball races lack.

While the Saiyans are often front and center in battle, there are still plenty of powerful non-Saiyan warriors who have reached comparable heights and should not be underestimated. These characters range from members of other alien races, like Namekians, to mystical gods and sorcerers, to artificially enhanced humans.

Piccolo Has Set New Namekian Standards With His Orange Upgrade

Piccolo has always been one of Dragon Ball’s strongest and most valuable characters. He possesses a versatile and dangerous roster of techniques, and he also benefits from his innate Namekian abilities, which include gigantification, malleability, and advanced regenerative powers.

Piccolo finally received a long overdue power boost in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, in which a wish to Shenron unlocks his potential along with a “little something extra.” The result, Orange Piccolo, is a tremendous step forward. He’s yet to actually fight against any Saiyans, but it’s been indicated that Orange Piccolo’s power is relatively on par with Goku and Vegeta’s.

Androids 17 & 18 Have Evolved Into Impressive Allies With Unlimited Energy

Androids 17 and 18 are introduced during Dragon Ball Z’s Cell Saga as vicious villains who are programmed to kill Goku. Android 18’s rehabilitation into a hero and Krillin’s partner is deeply rewarding to witness and, despite how things initially seemed in the Buu Saga, she’s someone who has never turned her back on training.

Android 17 was gone for an extended hiatus until he was recruited by Goku to fight for Universe 7 in the Tournament of Power. It’s during this multiversal martial arts competition that it comes to light just how powerful both Androids have become. They make waves against the other universes and their unlimited – and undetectable – energy becomes a major advantage. Android 17 even wins the Tournament of Power and saves the entire multiverse in the process.

Buu’s strength and abilities are almost too much to comprehend, which is likely why Dragon Ball Super often bends over backwards to keep him out of battle. Buu possesses power that surpasses Super Saiyan 3 strength, and he can also absorb individuals, mimic techniques, and heal himself from tremendous damage.

If all this wasn’t enough, Dragon Ball Super’s Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga also reveals that the dormant Grand Supreme Kai in Buu can still come forward and use his godly powers. While not an official transformation, Buu’s abilities when he’s controlled by the Grand Supreme Kai even give Planet-Eater Moro pause.

Jiren Is The Tournament Of Power’s Ultimate Opponent

Dragon Ball Super’s Tournament of Power introduces dozens of warriors from across the multiverse who all possess unfathomable strength. Among them all, Universe 11’s Jiren immediately stands out as the strongest mortal in existence.

Jiren is a dangerous juggernaut in his base form, and his abilities go even further beyond in his Full Power and Super Full Power states, especially when he uses his Overheat Magnetron blast. Jiren holds his own against Ultra Instinct Goku, and it takes the collective efforts of Goku and Frieza, with additional support from Vegeta and Android 17, to eliminate him from the tournament.

God Of Destruction Beerus Is A Brutal Behemoth Whose Full Strength Remains Hidden

Dragon Ball Super expands the franchise’s scope to include a rich multiverse of possibilities, as well as new celestial deities, such as Gods of Destruction and Angels. Whis and the rest of the multiverse’s Angels operate in a perpetual state of Perfected Ultra Instinct, and it’s without question that they’re among the strongest beings in existence.

A lot of this carries over to Gods of Destruction, but there’s slightly more humility with them, especially when it comes to their vulnerable Life Link with their respective Supreme Kai. Beerus is implied to be the strongest God of Destruction, and his Sphere of Destruction can take out an entire planet with ease, while his Hakai can erase most individuals in an instant. As made clear by the manga, Goku and Vegeta are still nowhere near his level.

Universe 6’s Hit Is A Revered Assassin With Debilitating Time-Space Techniques

Dragon Ball Super‘s multiverse brings forward some incredibly interesting opponents, particularly when it comes to Champa’s top warriors from Universe 6. Hit is a legendary assassin with an unblemished reputation that’s largely the result of his game-changing special attack, Time-Skip.

Hit’s Time-Skip feels like an ability that’s right out of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. He’s able to skip over microseconds of time, which leaves his target disoriented and vulnerable. Goku needs to turn to Blue Kaio-Ken to comprehend this strategy in their first right and, in their rematch, Hit is shown to have further developed his abilities. Hit has humbled both Goku and Vegeta, which gives him extreme bragging rights over the Saiyans.

It’s easy to get caught up in Jiren’s wave of carnage during the Tournament of Power, but it’s important to not overlook the impact that’s made by Jiren’s Universe 11 peer and fellow Pride Trooper, Top. Top may not be as powerful as Jiren, but he’s been considered as a God of Destruction candidate, and can activate a Destroyer Form during intense moments.

Destroyer Form Top eviscerates Frieza and nearly defeats Super Saiyan Blue Evolved Vegeta before the Saiyan’s Final God Explosion eliminates him. In any other circumstance, Top is the most dangerous opponent in the room, and someone who fails to be intimidated by Saiyan strength. Top will hopefully return in Dragon Ball Super’s future and showcase even greater power.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero embraces nostalgia when it comes to the surprising return of Red Ribbon, complete with new and advanced Androids. Dr. Hedo, Dr. Gero’s grandson, experiments with a series of Android prototypes before he perfects Gamma 1 and 2. And while the Gammas don’t have infinite energy, they are leagues stronger than Lapis and Lazuli.

Gamma 2 completely overwhelms Piccolo, while Gamma 1 experiences similar results against Gohan. It’s not until the Z-Warriors’ new transformations – Orange Piccolo and Gohan Beast – that they’re able to defeat these Androids. Gamma 2 sacrifices himself against Cell Max in a heartbreaking display of heroism, but Gamma 1 is still in the mix and determined to lend his talents to Capsule Corp and the Z-Fighters at large.

Granolah Is The Last Of The Cerealians & Benefits From A Prolific Dragon Ball Boost

Dragon Ball wishes have helped characters become stronger in many different respects. However, a new and controversial concept gets introduced by Granolah, the last of the Cerealians. Granolah blames the Saiyans for his people’s doom, and he uses his planet’s Dragon Balls to become the strongest warrior in Universe 7. This wish, while grantable, comes at the expense of Granolah’s lifespan being significantly shortened.

Granolah’s improved power is enough to overwhelm Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta. Granolah also has proficient sniper skills and impressive long-range ki attacks. He barely survives the following fight against Gas, but he’s still out in the world and technically one of Universe 7’s strongest.

Frieza’s Capacity For Power Has Reached New Heights After A Decade Of Intense Training

Frieza is a perpetual thorn in the heroes’ side, and he seems to always find a way to work his way back into the mix, stronger than ever. Frieza’s Golden transformation, while impressive, still paled in comparison to Super Saiyan Blue strength. However, Frieza’s latest breakthrough – his Black Frieza transformation – appears to be superior to Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego power.

Frieza’s recent glow-up is the result of training for a decade in a time-dilated pocket dimension, and while his full power has not yet been revealed, he is very clearly the strongest mortal in the multiverse. It actually feels like Dragon Ball Super’s abundance of new transformations for Broly, Gohan, and Piccolo have all been in service of giving the Z-Fighters enough strength to topple Black Frieza.

The cast of Dragon Ball Z, including characters such as Son Goku, Vegeta and Piccolo, among others, leaps towards the camera in the poster for the show.
