After years of speculation, rumors and leaks, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’s new remake for the Switch 2 has finally been announced by Nintendo.
During a general Nintendo Direct presentation on June 9, Nintendo shared a new first look at the Ocarina of Time remake, and it’s beyond perfection. The new teaser trailer is only just over a minute-long, and doesn’t show much from the game yet, but it does give an early look at the game’s art style and the new design for young Link.
From what has been shown so far, this is already shaping up to be exactly the game Zelda fans have been waiting for on the Switch 2.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’s New Trailer Gives a First Look at Young Link
While the OOT remake’s teaser is brief, there’s already a lot that fans of the original game can notice right away.
For starters, the game definitely features voice acting, as the trailer is fully narrated by a man who could very well be Rauru, the Sage of Light, and Link’s owl guide throughout the game. The music is also fully orchestrated with live instrumentation, though it still adapts those same iconic melodies that mean so much to fans of the original.
In terms of the story, this is clearly a faithful adaptation of the original. The narrator highlights Link’s story, as the one Kokiri boy in the Lost Woods who doesn’t have a fairy. The blend of live instruments and voice acting come together to bring young Link’s story to life in a way that truly feels cinematic.

This game is giving off the perfect fairytale atmosphere that made the original so timeless.
And what little has been shown of the game’s art style is doing the original justice. Leaving the cel-shading of the Wild Era games behind, the Ocarina of Time remake is giving fans the most realistic rendition of Link ever, but within that same whimsical fantasy setting of Hyrule fans know and love. Link also has a brand-new outfit that looks like a more casual take on his iconic green tunic.
With the Zelda movie around the corner, the sheer cinematic quality of this introductory teaser is extremely promising for the series.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Could be Even Bigger Than Fans Expect
The original The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is considered by may to be the greatest video game of all time. Since its release in 1998, the game has remained the highest-rated game on Metacritic, and remains the 4th top-selling game in the Zelda franchise, only surpassed by Twilight Princess, Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild. That considered, remaking Ocarina of Time for modern audiences is a major undertaking that Nintendo can’t take for granted.
While not much about the details of the game have been officially shown by Nintendo so far, the development of the game was already leaked before this reveal was even announced. At the very least, some of those leaks can now be accepted as real, painting an interesting picture of what fans might be able to expect.
If the trailer wasn’t already proof enough, leaks around this game have suggested it’ll not only be a ground-up remake, but also has a very big budget along the lines of any AAA game. Some even speculated it could be a trilogy like FF7 Remake due to the sheer size of the game, though that’s very unlikely to be the case.
The bottom line is that this isn’t just a mere remaster or simple remake, it’s a hugely ambitious reimagining of the N64 classic using Nintendo’s most powerful hardware to date.
Perhaps most telling of all is that the word “remake” doesn’t appear at all in the new Ocarina of Time trailer. It seems that, like Star Fox, Nintendo views this as the definitive edition of Ocarina of Time, taking on the title as its own.
So far, it’s truly looking like this remake can live up to the heights of the original, but only time will tell.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time doesn’t have a specific release date just yet, but the new trailer does specify a 2026 release window, with more details coming soon.
