An adorable upcoming game has arrived on Steam, which combines the style and exploration of Zelda with the gameplay of Stardew Valley. The game looks like it will be a win for fans of both franchises, and a great addition to any cozy gamers’ game library.
The fantasy world and cute style of this cute upcoming title are reminiscent of the Link’s Awakening remake and Echoes of Wisdom. But the gameplay takes a lot more inspiration from the beloved cozy gaming darling, Stardew Valley. Like in Stardew Valley, the protagonist of this title inherits a farm from their grandfather. Except this time, there be dragons.
Dragon Shelter is the name of the game, and also a simple description of the game’s premise: protect and are for magical dragons. In this game, developed by Wild Forest Studio, you play the role of a hero in a fantasy world. But, unlike traditional heroes, you’re here to befriend the dragons instead of slaying them.
In this world, humans and dragons have coexisted uneasily for a long time. Through friendship and kindness, you’ll help to rebuild the relationship between the two. Best of all, a free demo is available to play for free right now on Steam.
In Dragon Shelter, players will be able to grow crops, gather materials and resources, help the towsfolk, and—of course—befriend and raise adorable dragons. The dragons will require upkeep and playtime, like a Tamagotchi.
They will act like the hero’s helpers, assisting with various jobs around your farm, like harvesting crops and cooking. Harvest your crops and use them for cooking, alchemy, crafting, or to trade with the townspeople.
The townspeople are at the heart of the hero’s overarching goal. The nearby farm has become a gloomy place, and players are tasked with returning joy and hope to its cozy streets, one townsperson at a time.
Dragon Shelter is part of the Wholesome Direct collection on Steam: a group of cozy games from indie devs. The Direct was presented this past weekend as part of the Summer Game Fest, and showcased “50+ uplifting, joyful, and hopeful games.” Dozens of demos are available on Steam right now, from new and upcoming games perfect for cozy gaming enthusiasts.
The cute dragon-raising sim will launch on Steam on September 24, hitting the platform without an Early Access stage. In the meantime, you can download and play the demo on Steam for a preview of what to expect from the adorable title.
