The Walking Dead is returning in the future, and fans will get to experience one of its best storylines in video game form. A newly announced game, The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival, is a beat ’em up that pits Rick and his friends against the forces of Negan and the endless waves of Walkers.
There have been many The Walking Dead video game adaptations over the years. While a series about surviving against zombie hordes seems tailor-made for action titles, The Walking Dead has been at its best when it focuses on characters and storytelling, with the Telltale Games series featuring some of the greatest adventure games of all time.
The Walking Dead: Streets Of Survival Is a Beat ‘Em Up Featuring Zombies
Those who hunger for a retro-style game featuring Rick and Daryl are in luck, as Trailmark Games has announced The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival, an upcoming beat ’em up in the vein of Streets of Rage and Golden Axe, where iconic characters from the TV show face off against the living and the undead. The debut trailer is available on the Trailmark Games YouTube channel.
While The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival currently lacks a release date, it has been confirmed for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. It’s a fairly low-tech game, so it should have no problem running at full capacity on the Nintendo Switch or the Steam Deck.
The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival Adapts The All-Out War Arc
The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival is a 2D brawler with a faux-pixel art style. Players can take on the roles of Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, and Michonne as they fight through Walkers using their fists, which, according to the lore of the series, probably isn’t a good idea. Luckily, they also come equipped with their iconic weapons, including Daryl’s crossbow, which can mow down enemies.
The story of The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival follows the All-Out War arc from the comics and TV show, where conflict with Negan and his gang of Saviors is threatening to get ugly, while the Walkers continue to close in around both factions. While most of the enemies in The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival are undead, the human members of the Saviors are also faced in battle, with Negan acting as a boss.
The Walking Dead has produced some incredible video games, ones that examine the human condition in the face of the apocalypse. Not all games need to be award fodder, however, and there’s plenty of room for arcade action involving iconic heroes punching their way through monster hordes, which is something The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival seems fit to deliver on.
