Power has always been one of the defining attractions of shonen anime. From warriors capable of leveling entire cities to beings that can alter reality itself, the genre constantly pushes the limits of what characters can achieve.
Comparing powerful characters across different series is never straightforward because each universe follows its own rules. Some dominate through overwhelming physical strength while others rely on intelligence, supernatural abilities, or reality-bending powers. Despite those differences, a select group of shonen characters stands above the rest through the sheer scale of their strength.
Eren Yeager Became the Catalyst for Humanity’s Greatest Catastrophe
Eren began Attack on Titan as the least remarkable soldier in his graduating class, and ended it commanding an army of Colossal Titans in a march across every continent on earth, an apocalyptic event called the Rumbling. The Founding Titan’s power gave him control over all Titans in existence, the ability to telepathically communicate with every Eldian alive regardless of location, and the capacity to alter the memories of an entire civilization.
The three Titans Eren carried, Founding, Attack, and War Hammer, each added a different dimension to his power. Moreover, with Eren’s knowledge and manipulation of the past and future, his strength was never just physical, but temporal, psychological, and apocalyptic.
All for One Built An Empire Through Stolen Power
All For One steals other people’s powers with a single touch and then keeps them, stacks them, or passes them to subordinates at will. He has collected dozens of named Quirks across centuries and combined them in ways nobody anticipated, like his Air Cannon merged with Springlike Limbs sends shockwaves powerful enough to level city blocks, while his Rivet Stab extends bone tendrils from his spine that pierce through anything.
The real proof of All for One’s strength is not any single battle but longevity, as he dominated Japan for generations. Even the Symbol of Peace that rose against him eventually crumbled. In his first clash with All Might in My Hero Academia, All for One left Japan’s greatest hero permanently weakened, unable to ever fight at full capacity again. In their second fight, he forced All Might to reveal his skeletal true form to the entire world, a humiliation designed to destroy the Symbol of Peace psychologically.
Meruem Represented the Peak of Evolution in Hunter x Hunter
At just one-month-old, Meruem was already stronger than Isaac Netero, the most powerful human alive in Hunter x Hunter and the chairman of the Hunter Association. Meruem tore off Netero’s arm and leg during their fight without breaking a sweat, and his Royal Guards believed he was invincible through sheer aura volume alone.
His Nen ability, Aura Synthesis, made the situation worse for anyone who faced him, because Meruem grows stronger by consuming other Nen users. After the Rose bomb seemingly destroyed him, Shaiapouf and Menthuthuyoupi gave him their own life force to resurrect him, making him even more unbeatable in combat.
Monkey D. Luffy Turned Boundless Freedom Into Unmatched Power
In Gear 5, Luffy embodies Sun God Nika, and the rules of his power shift from physics to cartoon logic. He turns the ground into rubber, makes lightning bounce like a toy, and grabs clouds out of the sky to use as weapons. Gear 5 Luffy defeated Kaido, officially the One Piece world’s strongest creature and an Emperor who had been undefeated for decades.
Even when struck hard enough to take the shape of Kaido’s club, Luffy simply bounced back. The more freely Luffy fights, the stronger his transformation becomes. No other power system in shonen is designed to overcome a fighter with gag powers.
Sindbad Ascended Beyond the Limits of His Own World
Sinbad conquered seven dungeons, each one holding a Djinn, while every dungeon capturer throughout history struggled to claim even one. Even more impressively, Sinbad did this while still a teenager, and built a political empire alongside his power. At full Djinn Equip, he even levels entire mountain ranges.
By the end of Magi, Sinbad absorbs the Sacred Palace and becomes something beyond human, a deity-class entity with low multiverse-level power. He’s capable of reality warping, soul manipulation, and life control, and his Ren can stop weak spells from even landing on him.
Sukuna Ruled the World of Curses Through Fear
Sukuna exists outside the rules of jujutsu combat, and that is the clearest explanation of why nobody can touch him. His Domain Expansion, Malevolent Shrine, does not create a closed barrier like every other domain in Jujutsu Kaisen, but manifests directly in the real world, cutting through everything within a 200-meter radius using Dismantle and Cleave.
In Shibuya, Sukuna activated Malevolent Shrine and tore apart a city district just to defeat Mahoraga, a divine shikigami that adapts to any technique used against it. During the Shinjuku Showdown arc, Sukuna fought Satoru Gojo and his Malevolent Shrine temporarily overwhelmed Gojo’s Unlimited Void. He eventually killed Gojo, the one character Jujutsu Kaisen spent three years establishing as untouchable.
Father Sought Perfection and Challenged the Limits of Humanity
Father began as a small shadow inside a flask, a homunculus created from a drop of Van Hohenheim’s blood and given life in a bottle with no body, freedom or name. He spent centuries building the nation of Amestris specifically so that its borders formed a perfect transmutation circle, and then he waited for the right moment to sacrifice every single person inside it.
Even before absorbing God, Father was already beyond rational opposition. He breaks every law of equivalent exchange that governs alchemy, transmuting without cost or consequence. His defeat required the combined efforts of almost every named character in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and the direct intervention of Truth itself.
Isshiki Brought God-like Power to the Naruto Universe
Isshiki walked into Konoha, fought Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha at the same time, and won without a scratch. Isshiki’s Sukunahikona lets him shrink non-living matter to microscopic size instantly and his Daikokuten stores objects in a pocket dimension where time does not pass, letting him deploy them in any quantity at any moment, and this combination creates attack patterns that bypass durability, regeneration, and tailed beast power entirely.
Forcing Naruto to use Baryon Mode, a technique that consumed Kurama’s life force and killed him, is the most significant proof of Isshiki’s power level in the entire Naruto franchise. Baryon Mode made Naruto fast enough to match Isshiki but, even then, it only worked because Isshiki was already in a deteriorating vessel with limited time left.
Yhwach Gained the Power to Rewrite the Future
Yhwach’s power, called The Almighty, makes every other form of strength in shonen feel like a polite suggestion. When Yhwach activates it, his pupils split into four, and he sees every possible future simultaneously. The Almighty allows Yhwach to see and alter countless futures, selecting outcomes that favor him.
He absorbed the Soul King, the god-figure whose existence held three entire dimensions together, and restructured reality around himself afterward. He moved the entire Wandenreich city to the Royal Realm and rebuilt its architecture in seconds. Even Ichibei Hyosube, the most powerful Shinigami outside a few special cases, could not defeat Yhwach.
Zeno Has the Ability to Erase Entire Universes in Dragon Ball Super
The Omni King of the Dragon Ball multiverse has no martial arts training and no combat ability whatsoever, but he has Erase, an ability that removes anything from existence at will. Before Dragon Ball Super even begins, Zeno has already erased six of the original eighteen universes. He has ruled as Omni King for 8.5 million years and, in that time, every powerful being in the multiverse, including Gods of Destruction, Angels, and Supreme Kais have feared him.
Zeno watched 80 fighters from eight universes eliminate each other and casually erased each losing universe throughout the Tournament of Power. During the Future Trunks Saga, when a corrupted demigod began spreading across an entire timeline and becoming part of the fabric of reality itself, Goku had no choice but to summon Zeno. Zeno looked at the situation for a moment and erased the entire timeline.
