The king of horror, Stephen King, is one of the most prolific authors, whose works have been adapted into numerous films and shows. One of his most recent works is now becoming a feature film.
Australian filmmaker Ben Young (Hounds of Love) is now helming the feature film of Mister Yummy. The upcoming film will be based on the short story from King’s 2015 collection The Bazaar of Bad Dreams, Deadline reports.
The adaptation was first announced in November 2025, when Intrinsic Value Films started sales at the American Film Market. The Trespassers‘ Troy Blake Abruzzise will pen the script.
What Happens in Mister Yummy?
Mister Yummy follows Ollie Franklin, a charismatic resident of an assisted living facility who begins experiencing disturbing visions after the death of a fellow resident. As the line between memory, regret, and the supernatural begins to blur, Ollie is forced to confront long-buried secrets from his past before time finally catches up with him.
There are no cast members attached to the project, but Young shared his passion for the short story is that “the horror is inseparable from the humanity. It’s creepy, moving, character-driven, and exactly the kind of movie I’d line up to see. It’s also the first feature I’ll direct that I’ve also written on since Hounds of Love, so helping shape the script into the kind of Stephen King film I’d want to experience myself has been a real joy.”
He added, “Stephen King was one of the first authors I ever read religiously, so getting to work on something that came from his imagination is a genuine honor.”
The Bazaar of Bad Dreams is King’s sixth collection of short stories and tenth overall, and it was followed by If It Bleeds, which was released in 2020. The collection featured two novellas turned into feature films, Mr. Harrigan’s Phone and The Life of Chuck.
