Spider-Man: Brand New Day Makes Tom Holland’s Alternate Civil War Suit Canon

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is getting closer, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie is now confirmed to bring back one of the best suits that never made it to the big screen. Superhero costumes are a key part of adaptations. Back when the Fox X-Men movies were being released, the option to go for black leather, rather than comics-accurate suits, was controversial.

After over two decades, one of the MCU’s biggest movies, Deadpool & Wolverine, finally allowed Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine to wear his yellow and blue costume from the comics on the big screen. Additionally, the X-Men will finally don their accurate suits in Avengers: Doomsday, with James Marsden’s Cyclops already shown in the yellow and blue X-Men team uniform in the MCU movie’s teaser.

When it comes to Spider-Man, I would say that Marvel fans have had an easier time than with other heroes. Different from the X-Men, Spider-Man has always looked amazing in live-action adaptations, with multiple comics-accurate suits, as well as a few creative modern reimaginings and brand-new concepts. That said, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men definitely wore more classic suits than Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.

Are you an Avenger — or just a friendly neighborhood bystander?

Now, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will see Holland’s Marvel hero wear his best suit yet. Finally, the MCU Spider-Man franchise has come up with a classic costume that is vibrant and feels like the most faithful to date for the hero in live-action. That said, after watching the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer, I realized that another Spider-Man suit would also appear.

A 2016 Marvel Suit Finally Appears In The MCU

Marvel’s new Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer puts a lot of focus on Holland’s new Spider-Man costume, which comes with some slight variations in comparison to the suit Peter Parker was last seen wearing in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. That said, while that will be the main suit the hero wears in the movie, and perhaps the only costume Peter puts on, a quick moment in the footage featured an exciting Easter egg that connects to a prior suit. When Peter is introduced to Ned Leeds’ wall filled with clues about Spider-Man’s secret identity, an alternate suit can be spotted.

That alternate suit was the one Tom Holland was seen wearing on the set of Captain America: Civil War, the movie that marked Spider-Man’s MCU debut. Contrary to the costume that he ended up wearing in the 2016 film, which was smooth, modern-looking, filled with black accents, and had no raised webbing, Holland’s alternate Captain America: Civil War Spider-Man suit was a more traditional costume for the hero. It had raised webbing, fewer black accents, and felt more authentic. The unused suit can be briefly seen in one of the clippings on Ned’s wall, suggesting Peter used it between Spider-Man movies.

Could Spider-Man: Brand New Day Include Yet Another Suit?

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in Brand New Day

It is not uncommon for MCU movies to feature heroes wearing multiple suits. In fact, several of them have done just that. Based on the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer, it seems like Peter’s mutation is making him more violent than before, with black eyes and a loss of control as symptoms. If that were to culminate in the symbiote that was left behind in the MCU by Tom Hardy’s Venom back in Spider-Man: No Way Home finding its way to Peter, then it would be quite fitting.

After all, the symbiote is known to transform Spider-Man in similar ways in the comics and other adaptations. Through it, Marvel fans could finally get to see Holland’s Spider-Man don the iconic black suit in the MCU. If that does not end up happening, then the fact that Spider-Man: Brand New Day features the best suit Holland has put on yet in his time in the franchise, with this fun Easter egg to his unused Civil War concept, is reason enough to be excited about the film.
