After establishing itself as one of the most popular web novels and webtoons over the last decade, Solo Leveling has since also swept over the anime industry, planting a firm foothold within only two seasons. In fact, it’s been only two years since Solo Leveling’s anime released, and the series has already become one of the hottest action franchises out there.
And now, with a bigger fan base than ever, Solo Leveling’s franchise is spreading its wings even further with a live-action adaptation— licensed by Netflix, no less. Much like the anime, however, updates on the Solo Leveling live-action have been few and far between. That said, with filming finally taking off, it seems like the live-action series has finally gotten its biggest update yet.
Netflix’s Solo Leveling Series Is Reportedly Set For 2027
As per a recent report by Korean news outlet Hankyung, Solo Leveling’s live-action series is reportedly set to release in 2027. Hankyung recently shared an article discussing the popularity and success of live-action, K-drama adaptations of webtoons such as The Legend of Kitchen Soldier, Reborn Rookie, and Teach You A Lesson. And, naturally, the piece couldn’t go without mentioning one of the most highly anticipated upcoming adaptations, Solo Leveling.
Hankyung’s report pointed out how the Solo Leveling IP has successfully evolved into a multimedia franchise which now includes the web novel and webtoon, anime, print releases, the live-action series, and even a musical ice show dubbed Solo Leveling on ICE. And, regarding the Netflix series and its release, the post reads:
“Even looking at the case of the mega IP ‘Solo Leveling,’ although actor Byeon Woo-seok’s casting was announced last July, test filming did not begin until March of this year, and full-scale filming only recently commenced. The release date is reportedly set for next year.”
The exact source of this information has not been stated, and it is unlikely Netflix will provide official confirmation regarding the release until the series’ productiion has progressed, As per updates from its lead star, Byeon Woo-seok, who is playing Jinwoo, Netflix’s Solo Leveling began filming towards the middle of May.
Judging by this update from Byeon Woo-seok, the common expectation was that the live-action would be ready for release sometime in 2027 or later, and it seems this speculated timeline may be accurate after all. It makes sense for the series to take at least half a year to film and maybe then some more time for post-production to bring Solo Leveling’s fantastical world to life.
2027 Will Be A Huge Year For Solo Leveling Fans
All that said, while the last year has been quite a dry spell for fans of Solo Leveling, it seems as though the franchise will be returning in full force in 2027. As per a recent financial report by Solo Leveling’s publisher, D&C Media, Season 3 of the anime by A-1 Pictures is also looking at a 2027 to 2028 release.

Solo Leveling Season 3 Gets Official Release Window
Solo Leveling Season 3 finally confirms a release window following a major production update by one of the anime’s main shareholders.
It is still unclear whether the next installment of the anime will be a movie or a regular episodic series, though there have been reports that Solo Leveling is eyeing a big theatrical release in 2027. Furthermore, Solo Leveling’s sequel manhwa, Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, is also most likely to return from hiatus sometime between July to October 2027.
The series went on hiatus in January 226 due to its illustrator having to complete their mandatory military service, which in South Korea typically spans 18 to 21 months, meaning Solo Leveling: Ragnarok’s manhwa could definitely return with Season 3 in 2027 as well. Together with the Netflix live-action series, it looks like 2027 will be utterly dominated by Solo Leveling, and it might just be the biggest year for the franchise in its entire history.
