Sega Reveals Official First Look at New Sonic x Evangelion Crossover for 35th Anniversary

Sonic the Hedgehog is officially headed for a breakneck encounter with the world of Neon Genesis Evangelion.

A new trailer for things to come in the world of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has officially been released to coincide with the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise’s 35th anniversary, and with it comes a glimpse at some of the biggest guest stars to ever grace the series. Among these are the original towering kaiju, Godzilla, and even the instantly iconic Evangelion Unit-01. Readers can check out the trailer below.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Celebrates 35th Anniversary with Neon Genesis Evangelion

Apart from the likes of Godzilla and the cast of Neon Genesis Evangelion, gamers can look forward to some of their other favorite pop culture mainstays making their way into the world of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds soon enough. In July, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be joining in on the pulse-pounding action, while October will mark the additions of characters from Avatar Legends.

The trailer also gave audiences their first look at a brand-new indie title, Sonic Pico Park, which will drop fan-favorites such as Sonic, Tails, Amy Rose, and Knuckles into the middle of their own Pico Park experience. Sonic Pico Park will offer largely the same action puzzle experience that players of the original Pico Park fell in love with, albeit with a few extra mechanics thrown in to fully capture everything Sonic and his pals bring to the title.

Released in September 2025, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds came as the then-latest in a long line of kart racing titles, although it arrived with more than enough to separate itself from the rest of the pack. As noted by the official game description from developer Sonic Team and publisher SEGA, “Race across land, sea, air, space, and time in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds! Warp through Travel Rings into new dimensions where something new awaits around every twist and turn.”

On top of the generally well-crafted and thrilling racing action at the heart of the game, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds immediately caught the attention of fans with the myriad of characters pulled from outside properties. Prior to its release, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds showcased a wide variety of 3rd party characters who would be a part of the game from nearly the very start, including Hatsune Miku, Yakuza/Like a Dragon protagonist Ichiban Kasuga, and Joker of Persona 5 fame.

Since its release, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has received generally favorable reviews from critics and gamers alike. As of the time of writing, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds boasts an 82/100 Metascore on the review aggregator Metacritic, based on 82 verified critical reviews.
