Returning Lord of the Rings Star Gives Disappointing Update About The Hunt for Gollum Role

The last time one of The Lord of the Rings trilogy films graced the world with its presence, the year was 2003 — yes, it was 23 years ago when we last saw Elijah Wood headline one of Peter Jackson’s masterpiece adaptations of J. R. R. Tolkien’s works as Frodo Baggins. He will reprise the role for The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, but there’s something about the reappearance that is disappointing to him.

As such, it’ll probably feel the same for those who love the character. And while the asterisk not exactly the end of the world — as Wood prepares to reunite with LOTR alum such as Ian McKellen (Gandalf) and Andy Serkis (Gollum/Smeagol) — Wood simply wants more, that’s all.

More screen time for Frodo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is not in the plans, however, for the Serkis-directed film. Wood is thrilled to be a part of the project though, and especially with several from the original cast.

“I mean, it’s sort of like getting the band back together a little bit with that film,” Wood told GamesRadar+. “A lot of the creative team who were part of Lord of the Rings are part of Hunt for Gollum. I’m just looking forward to seeing all those people again. It feels like a family reunion.”

He continued: “My part to play is relatively small, but I’m just excited to go back and spend some time in New Zealand and see old friends.”

This is a developing story so check back momentarily for more info!
