Pokémon Gold and Silver are returning very soon in a new collection dropping exclusively via the Pokémon Center’s online store on June 18, according to a recent report from Essential Japan. Pokémon is on a roll this year with new collaborations and releases dropping left and right to celebrate the franchise’s 30th anniversary, and the beloved Pokémon Gold and Silver games are two of the most exciting titles featured in the nostalgic collection.

Pokémon Officially Reveals 2 New T-Shirt Designs Based on Gold & Silver Original Box Art

Pokémon’s new 30th anniversary collection includes a wide array of merchandise for fans to choose from, including 20 nostalgic T-shirt designs based on the original box art for the games, each with a matching pouch. Pokémon Gold and Silver both get their own fresh designs for the exclusive release. Each shirt is priced at ¥3,960 JPY (about $24.65 USD).

In addition to the T-shirts featuring classic Pokémon designs, the new merch collection features collectable pins, keychains, magnets and more clothing items to choose from. While the collection offers a lot of variation, it won’t be widely available. Per Essential Japan, the 30th anniversary Pokémon release via the Pokémon Center online storefront is confirmed not to have a physical release of any kind on the collection’s initial release date.

Although the T-shirt and pouch combo collection also features the nostalgic box art from 18 other games, a release featuring Pokémon Gold and Silver is particularly exciting for fans because of the game’s status as two of the franchise’s most successful titles of all time. To this day, Pokémon Gold and Silver are the best-selling Game Boy Color games in history.

Pokémon Generation II changed the game in many ways that now define the global franchise. The Pokémon games from this era introduced innovative gameplay mechanics, including day-and-night cycles, shiny Pokémon, backward compatibility and Pokémon breeding. Generation II also introduced Steel-Type and Dark-Type Pokémon (to offset poison damage and psychic damage, respectively), more types of Pokeballs and over 100 new Pokémon species, permanently carving its mark into the brand’s legacy.

In fact, the Pokémon Gold and Silver games were so popular that they received one of the most legendary and well-received game re-releases ever with Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. The remake was released for the Nintendo DS in 2009 to celebrate the original release’s 10th anniversary.

With so much nostalgia packed into the history of these games, longtime Pokémon loyalists and new fans with retro taste in clothing and accessories can appreciate the full range of designs the exclusive new Pokémon 30th anniversary collection offers.
