Even though One Piece has not yet reached its final arc, the franchise found another way to give Sanji the ending he deserves in a game that’s releasing much sooner than anyone expected. The One Piece franchise has released over a dozen video games, ranging from decent to great. And there is a good chance that its next release, One Piece: Grand Gourmet, could be the most enjoyable yet.
With the story of One Piece being most focused on the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his crew’s many exciting battles, several of the franchise’s video games have leaned into having a high focus on action. Games like One Piece: World Seeker, Odyssey, and the Pirate Warrior series can be a blast for fans who are looking for intense and flashy battles, but those looking for a more cozy experience are in luck with One Piece‘s next game release.
For more than two decades, the beginning of June has turned into arguably the most exciting time of the year for gaming. It’s the time when most of the world’s video game studios present new content and tease future releases, and the June 2026 Nintendo Direct did just that. Trailers for Kingdom Hearts 4 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake ignited their passionate fan bases, but the surprise announcement of One Piece: Grand Gourmet did the same for One Piece fans while providing a peek at what a happy ending can look like for Straw Hat’s cook.
We Won’t Need To Wait To See Sanji’s Happy Ending
Going from the trailer above, One Piece: Grand Gourmet is a single-player game that puts players in the shoes of an amateur chef working with Sanji, Luffy, and the rest of the Straw Hat crew as they attempt to run a restaurant. As the game progresses, each of the beloved characters’ talents will be utilized to upgrade the Baratie Two’s menu, structure, format, and style in order to entice over 400 of One Piece‘s characters to become returning customers.

One Piece’s Biggest Retcon Confirms How Fans Completely Misunderstood Luffy’s Rubber Powers
Luffy’s true Devil Fruit power is not rubber, but something far more fantastical and liberating that changes everything he’s done in One Piece so far.
Besides the members of Luffy’s crew, other One Piece characters like the Skypia villain Enel and Luffy’s brother Ace can be seen using their Devil Fruit abilities to help cook special dishes. The game looks to use the franchise’s vast cast in extremely creative ways that fit extremely well in a restaurant management simulation. If players are able to get the hang of One Piece: Grand Gourmet’s gameplay mechanics, the restaurant will attract Pirates and Marines from around One Piece‘s world, and I can not imagine a better ending for Sanji’s character.
Sanji’s Real Dream And How Grand Gourmet Can See It Come True
While One Piece: Grand Gourmet is far from being considered canon to Eiichiro Oda’s series, it provides an extremely satisfying look at what Sanji’s life could be like after the story of One Piece ends. Without spoiling too much from later arcs, Sanji left his incredibly abusive family and found himself learning how to cook from the legendary pirate and chief, Red Foot Zeff. Together they worked on the Baratie ship/restaurant until Luffy came along and inspired Sanji to pursue his dream of finding the All Blue and opening his own restaurant.
Even though the One Piece manga is approaching the story’s final arc, there has been little mention or signs of progress towards Sanji’s dream of finding the All Blue. Like his mentor Zeff, he’s dreamed of finding the fabled sea that contains fish from all of One Piece‘s oceans. Still, the new One Piece: Grand Gourmet game is the realization of the other part of Sanji’s dream, and on October 23, 2026, players will be able to play an active role in helping it come true.
