No Crunchyroll Required: Fullmetal Alchemist’s Successor Is Officially Launching on Netflix

Until recently, Crunchyroll served as the exclusive streaming home for BONES’ latest anime, Daemons of the Shadow Realm — a supernatural fantasy from the mind of Fullmetal Alchemist creator Hiromu Arakawa. This Summer 2026 season highlight is now heading to the world’s #1 anime streaming platform.

Per What’s On Netflix, Daemons of the Shadow Realm will launch for Netflix subscribers worldwide on July 4, 2026. It has also been confirmed that the series will have a weekly release schedule.

While the series has nearly completed its first 12-episode cour (part), it is due to continue its run throughout 2026, bringing fans plenty of action-packed content from one of Japan’s most beloved creators. According to the official Netflix Anime X (formerly Twitter) page, Daemons of the Shadow Realm will also have “multiple dubs” options for the platform’s global subscriber base.

Daemons of the Shadow Realm Heads to Netflix July 2026

In many ways, Daemons of the Shadow Realm can be identified as the spiritual successor to Arakawa’s iconic Fullmetal Alchemist series. While the fictional worlds of the two works are not connected, they both revolve around a pair of siblings with a unique set of supernatural powers.

As twins “rent asunder by night and day,” central protagonists Yuru and Asa are separated at birth due to their connection to a mysterious prophecy. As adolescents, the two are reunited and learn of their shared ability to harness the power of strange yet powerful creatures called “Daemons.” After learning more details about the aforementioned prophecy, Yuru and Asa depart together with their new Daemon allies on a mission to save the world.

Daemons of the Shadow Realm is directed by Masahiro Ando, who previously worked on the original 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist anime in addition to the 2009 reboot series, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Nobuhiro Arai, who served on Brotherhood’s animation staff, created the new series’ character designs. Daemons’ script was penned by Noburu Takagi, who is known for their work on Golden Kamuy, Attack on Titan, and Kuroko’s Basketball.

Although Daemon’s Netflix premiere is still a few weeks away, subscribers still have plenty of anime to enjoy in the meantime. On June 1, Netflix hit the ground running with updates to several popular anime, including Assassination Classroom, Shangri-La Frontier and My Hero Academia.

The latter series — an adaptation of the bestselling manga by Kohei Horikoshi — concluded with its eighth and final season in December 2025. Additionally, May 2026 saw the Netflix debut of My Dress-Up Darling Season 2, Blue Lock Season 2 and Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2.

In addition to capitalizing on the success of established IPs, Netflix is also expanding its collection of anime exclusives as part of its new long-term content strategy. Accordingly, next month will also see the streaming premiere of Sparks of Tomorrow — a dystopian sci-fi anime about an alternate reality where Japan embraces steam power instead of electricity. The series is slated to debut worldwide on July 5.

For readers in North America, the Daemons of the Shadow Realm manga is available in English from Square Enix Manga & Books. As of June 10, 2026, the series is still ongoing. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is also available to stream on Netflix and Hulu.
