Marvel is redesigning its iconic God of Stories/Mischief/Evil, as Loki gets an armored upgrade for his upcoming appearance alongside Thor. While Loki prefers to scheme from the shadows, he’s a capable fighter, and his new look emphasizes his warrior status.
A shapeshifter whose origins stretch back into myth, Loki has countless redesigns across Marvel lore, from the reborn Kid Loki to the vicious Lady Loki to the magpie Ikol.
However, the villain also has a sense of tradition, and it’s rare to see him in anything more modern than a cloak and armor. That’s about to change, as Loki seemingly adds Iron Man-esque upgrades to his traditional design.
Loki Gets Hi-Tech Armor In Iron Man and His Awesome Friends
Marvel recently announced a slate of new episodes for Disney Jr.’s Iron Man and His Awesome Friends, beginning with a team-up between Tony Stark’s Iron Man, Amadeus Cho’s Iron Hulk, Riri Williams’ Ironheart and the Mighty Thor. The new episode will see Thor and the Iron Friends take on Loki, who is seemingly co-opting Iron Man’s tech.
Marvel shares three screenshots of the episodes, showing both Loki and Thor wearing new armor. Their costumes are dotted with glowing energy ports similar to the Iron Friends’ armor, potentially hinting that Loki will steal Tony’s tech, with Iron Man upgrading Thor to compete against his brother. Loki also wields his MCU staff, and a version of his iconic golden helmet with its curling horns.
These episodes represent the second half of Iron Man and His Awesome Friends‘ first season, and will release on Disney Jr. on Thursday, June 11, at 7am EDT/PDT. This episode and ten others will be available to stream on Disney+ from June 12 on.
This upcoming episode will also star the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Mookie Betts and sportscaster Dottie Doubleday as siblings trying to teach kids baseballs with the Iron Friends’ help.
Marvel has confirmed that Odin will be voiced by Alan Ruck, described as “the mighty and kind ruler of Asgard.” So far, the voice actors for Loki and Thor aren’t yet confirmed, though they’re likely to return to the characters soon. Released episode titles ‘Thor and the Frost Giant,’ ‘Thor and Loki Hit the Road’ and ‘Loki’s Monorail Trouble’ suggest they’ll be causing trouble for Iron Man again soon, setting up their shared membership on Disney Jr.’s Avengers…
Iron Man and Thor Are Teaming Ahead of New Disney Jr. Avengers Series
Iron Man and Thor’s cartoon team-up is just the beginning, as Marvel has also announced that – spinning out of Iron Man and His Awesome Friends – Disney Jr. will lauch the first ever Avengers show for preschool fans. New series Avengers: Mightiest Friends is coming 2027, reuniting Iron Man and Thor along with Captain America, Black Panther and Black Widow.
Disney Jr. also has plans for two 22-minute animated special, in which the preschool versions of Spider-Man, Iron Man and the Avengers will team up against various villains. The first is coming October 16, and will pit Earth’s Mightiest Heroes against Tony Hale’s Ultron and JP Karliak’s Green Goblin.
Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends began this shared universe of kids shows, transforming Marvel’s biggest heroes and villains for a young audience. Now, Thor and Loki are joining in on the fun, debuting with what appear to be Iron Man-inspired updates, and preparing fans for their ongoing team-ups in a new Avengers-focused show.
Marvel’s Iron Man and his Awesome Friends returns June 11 on Disney+, followed by Avengers: Mightiest Heroes in September 2027.
