Marvel Officially Confirms Name And Design Of Its New Hulk

The Marvel Universe witnesses the rise of new and familiar foes, among which stands out a brand-new Hulk. Bruce Banner houses a collective of Hulk alter egos, each manifested from specific psychological scars, from the universally recognized Savage Hulk to the cunning Gray Hulk a.k.a. Joe Fixit, to the intellectual Professor Hulk to the peaceful but impulsive Fractured Son. Recently, the Fractured Son has been possessed by Eldest and transformed into one of the deadliest and most destructive Hulk in Marvel lore, the Infernal Hulk.

Unlike Bruce Banner’s, most gamma mutates retain their human consciousness as they transform their physical bodies into permanent reflections of their true personality. Samuel Sterns’s Leader transformation allows him to make his wildest schemes come true, while Emil Blonsky unleashed his cruelty as soon as he first transformed into Abomination, at the cost of his human form. Physical changes are quite diverse. While Leonard Samson got a strength boost and Rick Jones became the heroic A-Bomb, Betty Ross underwent multiple horrific overhauls to become the razor-clawed Red Harpy and Thaddeus Ross gained the ability to transform into Red Hulk at will, retaining his intellect and personality intact.

The Marvel Universe has seen the birth of new gamma mutates multiple times, but only a limited number always survives. But while only a few characters have what it takes to withstand the physical and psychological torment of enduring a gamma transformation, new Hulks often manage to do plenty of damage.

Red Hulk unveils his new American flag in Avengers Armaggeddon #1

Thaddeus Ross officially launches his global conquest, starting with his takeover of Doomstadt and all of Latveria, which he renames Democracy City and New America, respectively. Ross destroys a significant part of Doomstadt all by himself, using his Red Hulk transformation to crush anyone who opposes him, including Steve Rogers. However, Red Hulk doesn’t come alone. Ross also forms his own squad of high-ranking officials, all transformed into gamma mutates of different colors.

Ross’ second-in-command is Captain Ortega, a female gray Hulk who appears to be in charge of all the logistics of Ross’ plans, including communication with the US government. In Avengers: Armageddon #1, it’s Ortega who informs Ross that the White House is “unhappy” with Ross’ occupation of Latveria before Ross orders his people to raise the New American flag in Democracy City. Naturally, Red Hulk is the strongest of the New American gamma mutates, but characters like Captain Ortega and Captain Doakes are strong enough to go toe-to-toe with the Avengers.

Thaddeus Ross has successfully organized a highly coordinated elite strike force consisting entirely of high-ranking gamma mutates. Unlike the mindless, rampaging monsters of the past, Red Hulk’s followers combine god-like physical power with strategic military training and perfect mental clarity. Ross has inadvertently demonstrated that gamma mutates are an entirely viable next step in human evolution. If they possess the collective capacity to both take a nation and demolish its capital city using nothing but their own strength, they’re more than capable of taking over the world.

Marvel Is Rebooting Captain America: Brave New World, And It’s Glorious

Marvel secretly released a remake of one of the MCU’s most controversial Phase 5 releases to improve a villain’s arc and set up an even bigger event.

It would be rather easy for the United States and other countries to stop Ross and his faction of New American separatists if they were regular humans. But since these evil Hulks don’t have any physical repercussions to fear, there’s little pressure the world can exert on their conquest. Shooting a Hulk is wasted time, and considering Marvel has already teased “Earth’s Mightiest Survivors” replacing “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes,” it’s safe to say that the Avengers also have the odds stacked against them.

Besides Bruce Banner’s gamma monster, which Hulk is your favorite?
