Jason Momoa Addresses James Gunn Recasting Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman

Jason Momoa is no stranger to the DC Universe, and he’s already looking forward to his new role as Lobo in James Gunn’s DCU. Momoa recently opened up about where Gunn’s new world will be taking Wonder Woman.

In an interview with Screen Rant ahead of the new Supergirl movie which he stars in, Momoa brought up one of DC’s iconic characters that he’s looking forward to seeing on the big screen again. “Wonder Woman would be just great,” he remarked, to which the interviewer mentioned a rumored casting pick: Momoa’s girlfriend, Adria Arjona. “She’s hot,” Momoa remarked at the idea. “She’s hot.”

Jason Momoa Names His Favorite DC Heroes for Future Films

While Wonder Woman has yet to be officially cast in James Gunn’s new DC Universe, there are already some other actors Momoa wouldn’t mind reuniting with in future projects. The first of which is Isabela Merced, who portrayed Hawkgirl in Superman and will return for Man of Tomorrow.

“Oh yeah. It’d be fun. I like Hawkgirl. I mean, and Isabela Merced played my daughter in a movie,” Momoa shared. “Yeah. She played my daughter in Sweet Girl. So I mean, obviously, yeah, I’d love to, just because we’re actors.”

The Game of Thrones alum also mentioned one other DCU star that he’d like to share the screen with. “I mean, Superman would be the top of my list. Batman would be good.”

Batman is another highly-anticipated DC character that fans are eagerly awaiting casting announcements for. The Dark Knight will lead a film of his own, The Brave and the Bold, though it is only in development at this time and does not have a scheduled release date, similar to the currently untitled Wonder Woman project.

Not much is known about Wonder Woman’s DCU debut at this time, other than the fact that Ana Nogueira is the project’s screenwriter. Gunn previously revealed that Wonder Woman would not be making her DCU debut in the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow, but rumors have swirled after Arjona’s recent casting that she is indeed playing the Princess of Themyscira.

While Momoa’s time as Aquaman is behind him, he’s stepped into a new role for DC: the alien bounty hunter named Lobo. Fans won’t have to wait much longer to see his debut either, with the character set to star in the upcoming Supergirl film, which flies into theaters on June 26. Momoa’s return clearly makes it possible that other former DCEU stars could have their own roles somewhere in Gunn’s new vision for DC movies.

As for Supergirl, the film is an adaptation of the character’s 2021-2022 comic miniseries Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. It sees Kara Zor-El (Milly Alcock) celebrating her 23rd birthday by traveling across the galaxy with her beloved dog Krypto. During her adventures, she encounters a young girl who recruits her on a mission to avenge her father’s death at the hands of the wicked Krem (Matthias Schoenaerts).

Supergirl arrives in theaters on June 26, and more details about the DCU’s upcoming projects like Wonder Woman are expected to emerge in the coming months.
