Attack on Titan has been on a rather long hiatus after the manga wrapped up in 2021 and the anime two years later in 2023. Since then, fans have had little in the way of new content, which isn’t particularly surprising, considering the source material has somewhat run out. However, there has always been the potential for new Attack on Titan media, from video games to spin-offs and more, and those who adore everything AoT have been waiting patiently to see what would be announced.
Fortunately, the wait is finally over, as Attack on Titan is finally returning. This has been officially announced, with a brand-new project in the works. In fact, this may be the definitive Attack on Titan project, one that is intended to both indulge long-term fans and introduce newcomers to the legendary series. Sure, AoT may be one of the most rewatchable anime in history, but for those who’ve finished their umpteenth watch through of the show or read the manga for the hundredth time, this new Attack on Titan project is absolutely worth the hype.
Attack On Titan Isn’t Done Yet
Koei Tecmo has officially announced the third entry in the Attack on Titan video game series. The reveal, which came during the 2026 Summer Game Fest, blew fans away, in large part because Attack on Titan 3 looks set to be the most ambitious project in the series’ history. Despite including the 3 in the title, implying this is a sequel to 2018’s Attack on Titan 2 video game, the latest entry is actually a retelling of the entire manga run, albeit from the perspective of a brand-new customizable character.
It is rather exciting as a strict adaptation of the latter seasons of the anime, while certainly fun, would have felt like rehashing old ground. Instead, this more or less brand-new Attack on Titan story, which sees one controlling their own character in the Survey Corps and experiencing legendary events from across the series’ history, including encountering all the Nine Titans in a single video game, is far more intriguing. Fortunately, for those incredibly hyped for this enormous new Attack on Titan project, more details are on their way.
Attack On Titan Fans Should Mark Their Calendars
During the initial announcement trailer for Attack on Titan 3, Koei Tecmo promised that more information would be delivered on July 1, 2026. Sadly, a release date has yet to be confirmed, although it is likely that the game will release in 2027, both to avoid GTA 6 and the already stacked month of September. Additionally, as we know so little about the game, and the marketing has only just begun, it seems highly unlikely that it’ll be released in the coming months.
That being said, Attack on Titan fans should mark July 1, 2026, in their calendars, as we’ll most likely get the best look we’ve had of the game then. Koei Tecmo hasn’t confirmed exactly what will be shown off, but it’s very likely that we’ll see extensive gameplay and a better understanding of how Attack on Titan 3 is tackling covering the entirety of the original story. Additionally, Koei Tecmo could announce any new story moments potentially being added, especially as the game seems to revolve around a custom protagonist.
At the very least, it is just exciting that after three whole years, and after believing that it may very well have been the end of Attack on Titan, we’re finally getting something new. Sure, it seemed unlikely that one of the most popular anime of the 21st century would have been abandoned so swiftly, but it is nevertheless reassuring that AoT will live on, at least for one more entry. If Koei Tecmo manages to pull it off, Attack on Titan 3 could be one of the biggest anime games of all time, and that’s an immensely exciting prospect.
