GTA 6 Fans Surprised With Major Free Download Ahead Of Trailer 3

Right now, we’re still pretty much in the dark when it comes to Grand Theft Auto 6 details, but that’s about to change very soon. With mere months left until the double-delayed launch, we’ll get more info later this month. Announced officially by Rockstar, the pre-order period for GTA 6 will start on June 25.

In just one week’s time, we’ll get more concrete data on one of the most anticipated games of all time, which is just as well given how close it is to launch. As it’s been reiterated a hundred times at this point, the game is on track for November with no more planned delays.

While anything can happen, thanks to a post from Rockstar, we have a better idea of what the road to GTA 6‘s release looks like.

Incredibly, Rockstar has revealed a new upgrade path for console owners. If you have the PS4 or Xbox One editions of Grand Theft Auto 5, you can upgrade to the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S editions at no cost. Rockstar says this is in anticipation of the Kortz Center Heist, a new content drop coming very soon to GTA Online.

For reference, the Kortz Center Heist arrives in July and addresses “burgeoning interests in art theft and counterfeiting,” in which players can raid a museum.

Here are the features the console upgrades boast:

  • Technical improvements
  • Story and online progress migration
  • New features
  • Career progress rewards

Rockstar has a message for PC fans, too: “PC players can also experience all these updates along with PC-only features, such as ray traced ambient occlusion and global illumination, by upgrading from Legacy to Enhanced for free. And if you still haven’t experienced GTAV’s Story Mode yet, GTA+ Members can also now access it — along with GTA Online — as part of the GTA+ Games Library.”

This is a pretty major bonus for fans, as lapsed GTA players and hardcore folks with prior-generation consoles alike can reap the benefits. While some publishers (especially of the AAA variety) charge for upgrades for current-generation consoles, Rockstar is doing it for free here, which is a great move for fans.

After all, it does funnel more people into the current version of GTA Online, which is still making money hand over fist in the current marketplace. With several million active players still partaking in GTA Online, it behooves Rockstar to keep the population as happy as possible so that they’ll stay in (or visit) their ecosystem.

In this current competitive era of live service gaming, GTA Online is still alive and kicking. It’s going to get even more lively by the time GTA 6 comes out.
