With the future of James Bond still up in the air, expect Henry Cavill‘s name to always be tossed around in relation to it. The actor has long been a fan-favorite to play 007 on the big screen, something further exacerbated by his role in Guy Ritchie‘s spy flick, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. However, for as well as he pulled off the sharp-suited look, that dream may not come to pass. Denis Villeneuve‘s take on the long-running, storied franchise has reportedly been searching for a younger actor to take up the mantle of Bond, and Cavill himself has expressed contentment with not playing the legendary spy, even if he’d love to try being a villain for the series one day. Even if that doesn’t happen, though, he’ll still get another chance at spycraft.
Cavill has just signed on to join Kevin Hart for a yet-untitled action comedy at Netflix that will once again have him working in the world of espionage. The film will see the duo play two rival spies who, after unexpectedly crossing paths in a Lamaze class, see their personal and professional lives thrust together. Their wives hit it off instantly, bringing the two men closer together than they ever expected and causing complications both riotous and deeply dangerous for them and their growing families. The messy situation forces them to become reluctant partners on the journey to fatherhood, all while trying to keep their double lives from ruining everything. Finer details about Cavill’s character have yet to be revealed.
This new twist on a spy thriller hails from a red-hot writing team, including Adam and Aaron Nee, who recently received a screenplay credit for the massively acclaimed new Masters of the Universe movie, and Jonathan Tropper, who created Apple TV’s Your Friends and Neighbors and penned the hit Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista action comedy The Wrecking Crew. Their work is based on a short story by Sean Lewis and will be directed by McG in his latest effort at Netflix after Uglies in 2024 and The Family Switch. Hart is among the producers through his Hartbeat banner, but the film is also a massive Deadpool & Wolverine reunion, with Shawn Levy‘s 21 Laps and Ryan Reynolds‘ Maximum Effort backing it.
