It’s been a long wait for Haikyu!! fans, but the beloved volleyball franchise is finally showing signs of life again. More than two years after Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle brought Karasuno’s long-awaited showdown with Nekoma to theaters, new promotional material is giving fans their best look yet at the anime’s next major chapter.
While Production I.G. has yet to reveal a release date for the next movie beyond the year 2027, the studio recently unveiled a new visual featuring Shoyo Hinata and Korai Hoshiumi ahead of the Volleyball Nations League 2026 collaboration. The artwork serves as a reminder that Haikyu!! vs. The Little Giant is still one of the most anticipated anime films on the horizon, while also raising new questions about how the franchise plans to adapt the remainder of Haruichi Furudate’s acclaimed manga.
Haikyu!! vs. The Little Giant Just Got a Major New Update
The next movie in the franchise, Haikyu!! vs. The Little Giant, was officially announced in 2025, confirming that Karasuno’s quarterfinal match against Kamomedai High School would receive the theatrical treatment. Since then, updates have been scarce, leaving many fans wondering how far along the project actually was.
That changed this month when a new official visual spotlighting Hinata and Kamomedai ace Korai Hoshiumi was released as part of Haikyu!!’s collaboration with the Volleyball Nations League 2026. The image highlights one of the most important rivalries in the remainder of the story and offers another glimpse at the matchup that manga readers have been waiting years to see animated.
The Kamomedai match is widely regarded as one of the strongest arcs in the entire Haikyu!! series. Unlike many of Karasuno’s previous opponents, Kamomedai excels in nearly every area of the game. Their elite blocking, disciplined defense, powerful serves, and mental toughness make them one of the most complete teams in the tournament.
The spotlight, however, falls squarely on Hoshiumi and Hinata. Both players grew up idolizing the legendary Little Giant and have spent their volleyball careers proving that shorter athletes can compete with anyone on the court. Their clash represents far more than a simple tournament match, it is the culmination of years of growth, ambition, and rivalry.
In addition to the visual, the franchise is also preparing a special collaboration video with Japan’s national volleyball team as part of the Volleyball Nations League promotion. The crossover further reinforces the connection between Haikyu!! and the real-world sport that helped make the series a global phenomenon.
Haikyuu!! Is One of the Greatest Sports Anime Series Ever
Through just a few seasons and a movie, Haikyu!!, also spelled Haikyuu!!, has cemented itself as one of the greatest sports anime series ever created. It rivals series like Ashita no Joe and Hajime no Ippo as one of the single greatest franchises about sports.
There are no skippable moments in Haikyuu!!. From start to finish, the series presents an action-packed thrill ride with plenty of highs and almost no lows. Each season shows off some of the most explosive matches in the art form, pitting two powerhouses against each other time and time again.
At the center of Haikyu!! are Hinata and Kageyama, two characters who don’t know the meaning of the word “quit.” They’re determined beyond comparison, and together, they’re nearly unstoppable. They’ve faced plenty of tough opponents in the franchise already, but in 2027, it looks like they’ll be up against their strongest opponent yet.
Haikyu!!’s Future Is Bigger Than Just One Movie
The most interesting development surrounding Haikyu!! is that the franchise’s future appears much larger than fans initially feared. When the “Final” movie project was announced in 2022, many viewers worried that the remaining manga content would be condensed into only two films.
Those concerns have gradually faded as additional projects have been revealed. Alongside Haikyu!! vs. The Little Giant, Production I.G. also announced Haikyu!!: Where the Monsters Go, another anime project scheduled for 2027 that will adapt the highly anticipated Fukurodani versus Mujinazaka quarterfinal match.
The existence of multiple projects suggests that the studio is taking a more expansive approach to adapting the remainder of Furudate’s manga. Rather than rushing through the final chapters, Production I.G. appears willing to devote additional screen time to some of the story’s most beloved moments.

10 Years Later, Naruto Is Officially Returning In 2027
A full decade after Naruto: Shippuden concluded in 2017, the mega-franchise is poised for a massive comeback with a new anime.
What’s especially noteworthy is how much material still remains after the Kamomedai match. Once the National Tournament concludes, the manga transitions into its celebrated final arc, following Hinata’s volleyball journey years after high school. Many readers consider this stretch of the story one of the strongest conclusions in modern Shonen Jump history.
At this point, neither a fifth season nor another movie has been officially announced to adapt the post-timeskip material. However, with multiple projects already confirmed and a significant amount of manga content left untouched, it seems increasingly unlikely that Haikyu!! will end with vs. The Little Giant alone.
For now, fans will have to wait for a release date and full trailer. Still, between the new Hoshiumi and Hinata visual, the Volleyball Nations League collaboration, and the growing slate of anime projects, Haikyu!! finally appears to be building momentum toward the long-awaited conclusion of one of anime’s greatest sports stories.
