Genshin Impact Character Leak Confirms HoYoverse Is Breaking A Decade-Old Tradition

A new leak for Genshin Impact involving character releases has just been revealed, and it basically confirms that developer HoYoverse will, indeed, continue to break its decade-old tradition with games. Even though the popular action RPG is currently slowing down a bit in terms of content as it gears up for the release of Snezhnaya in Version 7.0, there have been a few rumors and leaks about the game, such as the Genshin Impact leaks about an elemental nerf that may have been applied for the Version 6.7 update.

Amid all the leaks about the Nation of Cryo and its potential characters, there has been a new leak by DK2 and HXG, which was shared by user astrelya on Reddit, highlighting a creative decision for the game. According to the leak, developer HoYoverse does not plan on releasing an SP version of Childe. For reference, SP characters are secondary versions of an existing playable character, giving them a new look and, mainly, new skills to use both in and out of battle.

Genshin Impact’s Skirk holds an unconscious Childe while standing in front of a rift.

The leak, which arrives amidst the preparations for the upcoming Genshin Impact 6.7 livestream, also mentions that this isn’t limited to Childe specifically. According to the information, HoYoverse isn’t planning any type of SP character for the action RPG, so we may not be seeing any variants in the near future – as we haven’t since the game’s launch. While skins have been released for characters, full new versions of units haven’t been released.

If the leak is to be believed, HoYoverse will be breaking a decade-old tradition it has with many of its other games, which started with Honkai Impact 3rd and is still happening in the game, as well as in Honkai: Star Rail. With the release of Honkai: Star Rail 4.3 earlier this month, players were introduced to Mortenax Blade, an SP version of Blade. The character is the same as Blade, but with a new look and new abilities that allow for different types of team comps.

With the action RPG, however, it seems like the developer is focusing mainly on expanding the roster with new characters, fitting them into the story, rather than introducing variants for existing characters. This ultimately feels like a new commercial strategy, too, though I don’t see a world where I wouldn’t pull for a new Raiden Shogun variant in Genshin Impact, for example.

As much as the leak sounds reasonable coming from fairly reliable leakers and the fact that HoYoverse hasn’t introduced SP variants in nearly six years, it should still be taken with a grain of salt. The game is constantly undergoing changes, and while we are approaching the final Nation in Teyvat with Genshin Impact 7.0, soon, we’ll likely still visit Khaenri’ah and Celestia, which could be an opening for SPs to be released.
