Game of Thrones: War for Westeros Officially Arrives 2026

House of the Dragon returns this month, but Game of Thrones fans will also get to see characters like Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister return later this year. Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is an upcoming strategy game that will let players shape the fate of Westeros, potentially saving characters and changing the series’ story in the process.

While there have been several Game of Thrones video games released since the TV show’s debut, they tend to follow the plot of the show or focus on smaller stories. Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is set to be the biggest game the series has seen so far, and it’s a chance for fans to prevent their favorite characters from making fatal mistakes.

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros Lets Players Rewrite Its Story

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, developed by PlaySide Studios, is an officially licensed premium real-time strategy game that lets players rewrite the history of Westeros. It’s a chance for fans who’ve always thought they could outsmart the likes of Tywin Lannister to put their money where their mouth is.

The upcoming game features the major factions from the show, including great houses like the Starks, Lannisters, Targaryens, and even the White Walkers, led by the Night King. All of the factions have their own unique heroes and units, such as the mighty Targaryen dragons.

Once players have chosen a faction, they’ll have to outwit their foes on the battlefield, facing off against their enemies in brutal real-time battles. Like in Game of Thrones, the ultimate goal is to claim the Iron Throne, but doing so won’t be easy.

War for Westeros Captures the Epic Feeling of Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros isn’t out yet, but it’s clearly a step up from other GoT games like Dragonfire. The upcoming game has solo and multiplayer modes, with players able to take on quick skirmishes or engage in massive campaigns that stretch across Westeros, from King’s Landing to the Wall.

While much of the action will take place on the battlefield, players will also have the opportunity to make strategic alliances or find ways to trick and sabotage their rivals. Players can decide how they want to win the Iron Throne, whether it’s through fair battles or by treachery and deceit.

A Song of Ice and Fire is prime material for a strategy game, especially one where players get to act out their “What If” scenarios, such as Robb Stark not getting killed at the Red Wedding or the White Walkers invading at the start of the story. Hopefully, War for Westeros will scratch that fanwork itch, giving players the chance to earn their happy ending, even if it’s not written by George R.R. Martin.
