Game of Thrones is currently finding itself between a rock and a hard place. Fans are all about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, but are split on House of the Dragon Season 2, which is more like a table-setting event for what’s to come. With emotions still running high from the polarizing Game of Thrones TV series finale, those same fans are quick to spot any similar failings from the franchise.
Over on Google Play, fans are discussing the latest release for the series: Game of Thrones: Dragonfire. It turns out fans are sharply divided on it for a variety of reasons, and they aren’t afraid to share why.
Released just recently on mobile devices (specifically Android and iOS), Game of Thrones: Dragonfire hit the marketplace, and fans are already split. Some enjoy the game, and others find the free-to-play portion frustrating.
Take this fan, who digs Dragonfire, but is hoping for future updates: “So far, so good. I just wish there was a way you could create your very own custom dragon. Like design, class, speed, how the stats increase with each level/star, name, etc. It could be a permanent one-time thing, and because of that, be a legendary. I also wish there was a solo story mode so I wouldn’t have to compete with other players.”
So far, other fans aren’t having it. As one summarizes: “This is just a GOT themed copy of all the other build-and-wait cash grab games. doing anything takes forever, resources come low, slow, expensive, story is severely lacking, and P2W players will dominate any and all competition. Only a few days in, and I’m bored.”
A common complaint is that it’s fun at first, then the free-to-play elements creep in quickly: “This is not a 4x strategy game, so don’t waste your time playing the tutorial. I already did it for you. This is a p2w time-gated city/base builder with a dragon gacha system.”
Others are plagued by technical issues: “It’s fun when it works, and has some interesting mechanics for a city builder strategy game, however I cannot give it any higher than 1 star because of the stability. With perfect internet connection, it sometimes bugs out and lags and glitches.”
If you were thinking about starting up Game of Thrones: Dragonfire, maybe wait until things are sorted first. In the meantime, House of the Dragon is about to unleash its third season, which is supposedly a step up from its predecessor.
