The upcoming cozy sensation, Capy Castaway, has already caught the attention of many with its adorable art style and the precious relationship between a capybara cub and a crow. As players take on the role of Capy and friendly crow, Corvi, we explore a world stricken by a horrific flood and meet several others in need of assistance.
Now, ScreenRant has an exclusive look into some of those other castaway characters you come across in this casual adventure, each with their own quirky personality and backstory. Some of them you will meet during the demo that’s available as part of Steam Next Fest, as we did while playing through an early preview of the game. Although the demo is short, it does a great job of giving a peek into what we can expect when the game releases later this year.
Three mischievous sheep siblings make up the Barbary Gang. All adolescents, they are a tenacious trio who, like Capy, have become separated from their parents. The oldest, Bab (he/him), tries to be the mature one of the group and is a bit more cautious than his siblings. Barb (she/her) comes next and is generally the sarcastic troublemaker.
Finally, the baby of the group is Barry (they/them), who is more prone to curiosity and silliness. The Barbary Gang may be hiding more backstory than we know, however, as they also seem to have a puzzling connection to the Spirit World.
Another fun NPC we see is a philosophical punk rock reindeer named Bread. Although her full name is Gingerbread, that’s simply too long a name, and “Ginger is too prissy.”
The bossy Raccoon of Capy Capabara is inspired by the legendary raccoon of Toronto, and shares the same name of Conrad. This cozy game’s version portrays a casual know-it-all who enjoys finding missing items or trinkets to exchange for goods or money. Plus, they have a really cool fanny pack.
If you look around enough, you will find these two highland cows in the demo for Capy Castaway. One of Capy’s friends from before the flood, Babybell, is a cheerful and rambunctious child. She does have a bit of anxiety, however, as she is worried about her mom, Bluebell, and wants to make everything happier. Meanwhile, Bluebell is kind and caring and seems to take a motherly approach to Capy as well as her own child, Babybell, but is heavily pregnant and about to give birth on this strange new island following the flood.
Although Capy Castaway doesn’t have an official release date yet, its demo is currently available as one of the free Steam Next Fest games. The game has previously been said to be releasing on Steam later this year and could easily be one of the most wholesome cozy games in a long time, so check out the demo here while you can.
